Easy DIY Treat Bags With Cricut Iron-On

I saw these small colourful striped treat bags at the dollar store and I just had to do something with them. They are so cute and cheery and just $2 for three little bags! With Easter quickly approaching, I decided they would make fitting goody bags for sweets and treats. But I didn't want them to be too Easter-specific - I wanted the kids to be able to re-use them to store small things on their desks or in their drawers or backpacks.

Plus, I wanted to show you guys how they could be used as loot bags for birthday parties or any special occasion where you want to have guests walk away with a small goody bag. Of course, you could just as easily use them to store craft supplies, marbles, paper clips, business cards or any other small items. Simply adjust your iron-on wording accordingly!

What I Ate Wednesday, with Easter Dinner & A Salad Challenge!

We had a quiet Easter this year. As much as we would have liked to go visit family, we were all feeling a bit burned out, and the thought of packing up all the stuff for the kids and the dogs was just too much for us. So we had a nice simple vegan/vegetarian Easter dinner right here at home.

Insta-Friday in real life

This past week was a busy one, both in terms of work and our family's social schedule. While the housework was largely left undone, we sure did have a great time. Insta-Friday is all about sharing those special moments that we capture quickly using simple cell phone pics. This week I'm sneaking in a few photos from my Nikon too. I happen to have carried my camera around quite a bit.

Vegan Mint Chocolate Brownie Cupcakes

Whether for Easter, a birthday party or just to brighten someone's day, a cupcake says it's time to celebrate. I decided to make these Vegan Mint Chocolate Brownie Cupcakes for the kids (and, let's face it, me) this past weekend. After all, the weekend is something to celebrate, right?

I went with a chocolate cupcake base...because you really can't go wrong with chocolate. I threw in some peppermint flavour for a little twist. Of course, cupcakes must be topped with thick, creamy icing. I added a hint of peppermint flavour to the icing as well.

What I Ate Wednesday...Easter weekend edition

What is it about sushi? Seriously, do they put something addictive in those little rolls?

You're with me on this, right? Every time I have it, I just want it again. Like, when I look at these pictures, I want to order sushi. And it's 9:00 in the morning!

Anyway, Happy What I Ate Wednesday! I am looking at some highlights of our food from Easter weekend, starting with our Friday night sushi party.

Insta-Friday in real life...a real life mess edition

Happy Easter! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend of celebration, relaxation and fun.

With the family home for a four-day weekend, I can't help but think we have more time for...cleaning! I know, exciting, huh? I promised the kids that if they help clean up today we will have a sushi and a movie party tonight. That seemed to inspire them a bit.

Here's a little look at our process, using cell phone photos.

Insta-Friday in real life, Easter fun

It’s Friday and the sun is shining. Two instant reasons to be happy today. I am continuing my routine of sharing a Friday look at our week using cell phone photos. Of course, this past week included Easter, making it lots of fun for the family.

Easter didn’t go quite as planned. We were expecting one of Nonna’s amazing Italian Easter dinners, but dear Papa (my father-in-law) was feeling quite unwell. Here’s hoping he feels better really soon!

Unrelated to Easter, my daughter decided to decorate a box from the basement. She called it “My Summer Vacation.” There’s some wishful thinking!

My daughter and I met some friends at the mall. Here she is impatiently waiting for her bff.

On Sunday, she received this basket from the Easter bunny. Chocolate, jewellery and a jewellery box. What more could a girl ask for?

My son got this basket, with a wrestling figure, some bullets for his Nerf guns and some other goodies. I know, very “boy” and hers is very “girl.” I’m not getting into nature vs. nurture and all that stuff right now!

My son wrote this sweet letter to the Easter bunny all on his own initiative.

Here is my daughter’s letter.

We were fortunate to be invited to the lovely home of some friends for Easter dinner.

Our kind hosts decorated the house beautifully with lots of candles and this tulip centrepiece.

The kids' table was just as pretty. This is my kids enjoying the food.

Here is the adorable kids’ table hostess.

Here is the host doggie, all tired out.

My niece also enjoyed the offerings.

As did my other niece. She tends to share only silly faces for photos, but we’ll keep her anyway.

I met a beloved friend for lunch one day, and had this delicious meal—two portobello mushrooms on a bun, with sundried tomatoes and roasted red peppers. And fries of course.

How was your week?

Insta-Friday in real life

Happy Good Friday everybody!

I hope you have plans to enjoy a long weekend of family, food, fun and friendship.

Here’s a look back at the simple, sweet moments of the week, using only cell phone photos.

My son helped my husband set up our new barbecue. We had the old one for about four or five years, and even when we got it, it was thrown away at the curb by our neighbour. As vegetarians, we don’t prioritize the barbecue much, but we do like veggies and tofu on the barbie, so it was definitely time for a new one.

We had expected warmer weather, but that didn’t happen, so my husband braved the cold anyway.

I took a quick trip out to snap a photo of our veggies and tofu. More about those here.

On Saturday, we turned the lights out for Earth Hour at 8:30 p.m. We spent an hour asking the kids trivia questions while tucked up together on the couch.

My daughter treated us to a little dance performance.

My husband caught the little one using my camera when I left the room.

She has been putting up Easter decorations all over the kitchen.

I am just so thrilled to have light shining through the windows.

How was your week? Have a great long weekend!
