Insta-Friday in real life, organization edition

It's Insta-Friday again...time to share a look at our family cell phone photos from the past week (or two in this case).

Everywhere you look, summer seems to be winding down. Children have gone back to school in some areas. People are talking about wanting to wear sweaters again. (Not me.)

Swimming lessons are finished, and badges earned. Or, not earned in the case of my daughter. She made great strides in overcoming her fear of the water, though!

My kids don't go back to school until September 4, so they are still enjoying the summer. This week, my son (above right) enjoyed a visit to Canada's Wonderland with a friend.

He also went paintballing with another friend. It was a good opportunity for us parents to do something with the daughter alone, so we went to see Ice Age: Continental Drift. Not my first choice, but cute for kids.

With the husband and I home for the summer, that means time to spend on our ongoing quest to organize all the STUFF in our home. With people talking about the end of summer, I am taking stock of our work, and seeing just how little we appear to have accomplished.

Recent book sales mean more books piled around.

My ongoing thrift store/garage sale shopping means dishes with no home (currently on the dining room table).

I have managed to accomplish a few things. This is my bathroom cupboard, post re-organization. I forgot to take a before shot, but, trust me, it was not good.

Here is my bathroom drawer, organized using trays from the dollar store.

I bought a tray for my most-often-used makeup.

Unfortunately, this is what's left over from my bathroom clean-up. This is the floor of my closet right now. All this stuff was in the laundry basket at some point, but my dog, Jolene, pulls things out when she's bored.

Another small victory...a nicely organized games closet in the basement.

I just might have a solution for my dishes dilemma. Canadian Tire has some cupboards on sale. Stay tuned.

Did you accomplish what you wanted to this summer?

  1. I am with you; my husband and I are both teachers and home all summer, yet I feel I barely have anything to show for it this year! Too much running kids around!

And I love that you have a "90210" game!!!!

    1. It is definitely hard when the kids are around.

I have yet to play the 90210 game, but I want to. ;)

  3. I also feel like I didn't get much done.... ;(
But I have learned to call it 'Prioritizing' other than 'Procrastinating' Because a 3 hour time at the playground doesn't really get much done but it's Prioritizing at that time - that this is of importance #1.
But man.... my bathroom drawers need those plastic containers - Bad! ;D

Glad to see you're having a busy lovely time off ;) Here's to a few more awesome weeks!
    ps. Love your pool ;)

    1. That playground time is indeed important. We will miss it one day. :)

Alas, that is not my pool. The kids took lessons at a private pool.

  4. Oh man. Now I think I need to go get organized... The problem for me is not necessarily getting organized, it's STAYING organized. Have a great week!

    1. I always think if I could get organized, then I would STAY organized. Probably not true! ;)

  5. I totally agree, at the end of summer it always seems like the to-do-list was hardly touched! Your nicely organized spaces must make you feel great though! Oh, and I love your dish finds :)

    1. At least we had fun and enjoyed ourselves, right? I have next week to organize too, when my daughter will be at dance camp. I'm glad you like the dishes. My husband is putting together a cabinet for them right now. :)

  6. Me. That's me who is ready to wear a sweater :) Good on you for all your organizing efforts. Makes me feel like I need to tackle my own bathroom cabinets... they are in a hopeless jumble.

    1. Well, for us it's the summer, because my husband doesn't work in the summer. What excuse do we have not to get projects done then?

Yes, there's always next summer...particularly for our messy garage!

  10. I'm never ready for sweaters either. Me with my long monkey arms, it's hard to find any ladies sweaters with sleeves long enough!

One thing I wanted to accomplish but hasn't been accomplished yet (and I"m starting to wonder if it ever will) is to get my garage cleaned out. IT's a complete disaster and has been for years! Oh well, there's always the fall. Or the spring....

    :)

  11. I don't think I'll be thinking about sweaters until November. We're still experiencing smothering hot temperatures here! Wish I was in that pool right now :)

    1. This week has been getting cool here. If you were to swim, the pool would have to be heated. :)

    1. That was my son's first time paintballing. He has been wanting to go for so long. He had a great time. You're right, they are getting exercise that way too! Bonus.
