Think Pink

On Saturday, I took my daughter to buy much-needed new tap shoes. She has grown a lot lately!

Shoes bought, I asked her to accompany me to the Salvation Army thrift store. We were pleased to see that it was a sale day...half price on anything with pink, red or white on it.

I just happen to love pink dishes anyway. I chose this small Royal York "Sweetheart Rose" plate.

Mad Women

The recent half price sale at Goodwill presented this thrifting addict with some new temptations.

Among the gems that I ended up taking to the cash was this Don Draper-esque vintage ice bucket, made by Kraftware, 225 5th Ave., New York City. Almost makes you want to drink during the workday, doesn’t it? Who could resist this at $1.50? Not me.

I was drawn in by the two spouts on this Evangeline Pottery gravy boat, which was also $1.50.

Made in Japan pedestal dish, $1.25.

Canister, 75 cents.

I got some non-vintage items too. These bright appetizer dishes speak to me of summer entertaining, with their handy built-in wine glass holders.

I also got these fun little plates.

This Mayfair China bowl was mine for about $1. I thought it would make a nice serving dish for rice or chips, or just about anything really.

What thrifty find would you go mad for?

Thrifting Sisters

As I mentioned yesterday, we stopped in to visit my sister on Saturday on our way home from Niagara Falls.

My sister and I indulged in some cranberry-infused vodka mixed with Sprite while the kids enjoyed the swimming pool. And, no, we did not get too drunk to watch the kids.

We did leave my brother-in-law to watch them while my husband (who was not drinking) drove us to a couple of thrift stores. To tell you the truth, I hadn’t even thought of going. My sister is possibly even more addicted to the hunt than I am. But once she mentioned it—different thrift stores in a different town?—I just had to go.

Vintage (and not so vintage) accessories

In the past, I have shown you a number of special vintage items that I have been given by my parents, including some great vintage drinking glasses and some wonderful pottery.
I have also shown you many items that I purchased at thrift stores to feed my new shopping addiction.
Today, I want to show you a bit of both.
