A Room of One's Own - My Living Room Makeover

*This post is sponsored by Wayfair.ca. All opinions are authentic and my own. Thank you for supporting the awesome companies that partner with Woman in Real Life.

I'm fortunate to have a dedicated area for work in my home - a room of one's own, if you will. In actual fact, this room is a combination office and living room, but most of our family living is done in the kitchen and connected family room. People rarely sit in the living room. So I have taken that as an invitation to do what I choose with the space.

My Home Office Makeover, Before & After

As back-to-school time approaches, I'm looking forward to returning to my regular work-from-home routine. I'll miss the easier days of summer and the warm weather outings with the kids, but I also crave the renewed sense of focus that fall brings. You might have noticed my reduced presence on the blog and in social media. That will change! In preparation for a productive fall of freelance writing and blogging, I gave my home office a lovely overhaul, with the help of Wayfair.ca.

DIY Spray-Painted Pink Side Table (with O.co) #12monthsofdiy

Each month I participate in a diy challenge with 11 other Canadian lifestyle and decor bloggers. We base our projects on a common material for the month. Hard to believe we are in June already! To review, January was about mason jars. February was fabric. March centred on Fusion mineral paint. April was thrifted finds. And May was a crafter's favourite - mod podge.

This month, our chosen material is spray paint. And thank goodness for that, because I hadn't quite realized how many items around this house needed a good refreshing with spray paint! I actually did two projects for June, as we are down a couple of bloggers in our group temporarily. Check out my spray-painted and stencilled terra cotta planter too!

The project featured here is a simple side table spray paint makeover. The fun of it is in the colour. The table, which I found discarded at the curb by a neighbour, was sitting in our home office/living room for quite a while, looking dull, outdated and, dare I say, ugly. As I have several touches of hot pink in the room, on picture frames, accessories and in artwork, I thought I would pick up the same type of pink for the old, dull table.

My New Home Office Chair & Vintage Bliss Tuesdays Linky Party #43

I had the most awful chair in my home office - a terrible blue chair our neighbour left at the curb one day. I should be grateful - it was free and it served me well for a time. It just wasn't attractive. That's why I snagged this vintage swivel office chair from my parents' house last time we were there. I gotta confess, it isn't all that comfortable (and I've got the bruised elbow to prove it!), but I like the look of it so much better! It has character, unlike that office-y chair that reminded me of the boring office environment I worked in before.

Somehow I have to make it a bit more comfortable though - maybe a nice, thick cushion or some kind of supportive, posture-helping type thingy. Oh, and I want to paint it (or re-stain it) a colour that suits my office - but don't tell my dad - he does not believe in painting any wood. He even has a wooden toilet seat!
