Around Here...

On Tuesday, I took some random photos of life around here.

With Halloween approaching, we have yet to get any costumes together. We usually buy costumes for the kids, but this year they agreed to make them. Turns out, my son just changed his mind and wants to buy a costume. I hope we can still find the one he wants.

My daughter has been focused on other kinds of costumes...one for her Thursday book report on Junie B. Jones, and one for her school play, in which she is an owl. These pictures show the beginnings of her Junie B. costume. In her chosen book, Junie B. is helping out in the school cafeteria, wearing an apron and gloves. Hence the wearing of the gloves while doing homework.

My girl is obsessed with wearing glasses. She keeps saying she wants to wear them all the time. Not a good thing, I tell her, but I guess she wants to be like mom. For the Junie B. glasses, we popped the lenses out of 3-D cinema glasses and then I painted the frames purple.

My son is driving us nuts bouncing that blue rubber ball...all the time. He bounces it against the door to the basement most of the time, and also on the table while doing homework, as you can see.

I am beginning to feel dozy, like winter is already setting in. I want to cozy up with my grandmother's quilt and drink tea in front of the fire.

I like this little guy, because he reminds me of the illustrations in one of our favourite children's books, Vunce Upon A Time, which is about a vegetarian vampire who likes to eat Halloween candy. I still read it to my 10-year-old every Halloween.

I have made great strides with my organizing projects. But, we get "junk creep" in some notable areas. That includes on top of the TV, where movie cases and CDs collect.

And on the dining room table, where I seem to put everything that I can't immediately find a place for.

Jolene is a huge fan of the fireplace. She gets good and toasty. I might just join her in front of it right now.

How is your week going? All ready for Halloween?

  1. I found you through One Sheepish Girl and this post made me smile. The attempts towards organization in the midst of real life... that is so my life right now! I also have no idea what my daughter's Halloween costume will be, but I want to make something. Better get thinking about that...

    1. Thanks Tabetha. You're sweet. :)

We kept asking him to stop bouncing that ball, but we finally gave up. It seems to keep him content.

  3. I used to love wearing glasses without the lenses when I was little too. I still wish I needed glasses some times! They are pretty cool :)

    1. Last night, I dropped my glasses behind the night table when I took them off to go to sleep. I had to turn the light on, and then grope around behind the table to find them. I couldn't see well enough without my glasses to find the glasses, unfortunately. I had to feel around for them. Do you still want glasses? ;)

  4. Those first photos are awesome! I would have never thought about it, but that costume does look like something Junie B. Jones would wear! Cute.

    1. She is indeed...all the time!

Okay, I don't feel so guilty if you are on the same page. I'll just pull a blanket over me and hibernate. ;)
