Top That

Since my little beauty is home with me today for the Thanksgiving holiday, I asked her to model some of her favourite thrift store tops for me. Over the past few months, we have acquired quite a range of clothing for her from various thrift shops. These tops set us back about 50 cents to $2 each.

My personal favourite is this AC/DC tee. Of course, she probably doesn't know who they are, but she looks cool wearing it, doesn't she? Daddy gave the kids one of his old guitars, and we're thinking she is likely the rock star of the two. The dude is more low key than her.

Thrift shopping is for boys too

Last week, my son and I had appointments with our doctor, who is located in another town. Another town means—you guessed it—another thrift store.

I decided to stop for some groceries after our appointments, and spotted a small Salvation Army store in the next plaza. Who can resist?
Luckily, my son was agreeable to a little shopping trip. Of course, he was compensated with some goodies too.
As I mentioned on Saturday, I decided to incorporate my new finds into my home fairly quickly because we were having a party and I was tidying up for company.
On Saturday, I asked you to spot my new thrift store find in the picture of a corner of my family room.
As Tabetha guessed, the lovely blue pottery pitcher is my favourite new décor item. It happens to be a piece of Blue Mountain pottery, like the pottery my mom recently gave me. I paid $5.99 for it. I didn't realize that it was Blue Mountain pottery when I bought it, because it has different markings on the bottom (three trees and the word "Canada").
The antique bookcase on which it now sits was my grandmother’s. The wall art is from Homesense. The picture frames were also thrift store finds that I wrote about here and here.
I love to mix new stuff with old stuff in our home. The new stuff keeps the look fresh, while the old stuff gives the house some personality.

I also found this happy trio of items—a little jug made in France, a small bowl and a cute side plate.

The plate is Barker Bros. Royal Tudor Ware Ironstone. Whatever…I just love the orange flower!

I went with a sort of yellow/orange theme on the side table in our dining room, using these new finds and the pottery from my mom.

My son scored this vintage globe. We had one just like it growing up. I am borrowing my son's globe at the moment, for the family room coffee table.

He also took home this Slinky (which got temporarily confiscated when he brought it to school) and a little lantern he wants to use for camping. He got some cool Converse running shoes that don’t quite fit him yet too.

I also got this tealight candle holder (with all of the candles in it). This definitely isn’t vintage, but I will make good use of it. It’s from a store I won’t mention, since their area rug destroyed my hardwood floor.

How about you? Are you doing any decorating this week?

Spot the thrift store find

Happy Saturday!

While we are busy preparing for a family gathering tomorrow, I wanted to give you a sneak preview of my next post.

Because I have been busy tidying the house for guests this week, I decided to find places for all of the thrift store items that my son and I found on a recent outing.

So, I am showing you the thrift store items “in action,” as they will be used in my home.

Can you spot my favourite find from this week in the photo above?

Come back Monday to see what my son and I discovered.
