Whenever I'm preparing for a road trip, one of the items at the top of my packing list is always snacks. Ever since my daughter was a toddler she has required a constant stream of snacks. And heaven help me if I don't bring snacks in the car! (Not to mention I'm pretty "snacky" myself.)

Before a recent road trip to Kingston for my son's end-of-season basketball tournament, I headed to Shoppers Drug Mart to look for fun yet healthy snacks for the whole family. With the arrival of spring, there are sure to be lots more road trips on our calendar. I find that Shoppers Drug Mart is handy not only for snacks, but for whatever products we need for our trips - like shampoo, sunscreen, medicines - all that good stuff we constantly need to replenish.

I hope you enjoyed a fulfilling October, rich with pumpkin spice lattes, leafy fall walks in the woods and Halloween goodies. Now that this lovely month is behind us, it’s on to the festive holiday season. It’s definitely not too early to think about holiday gift giving. Get the jump on it now so you can enjoy more leisure time with friends and family come December.

This might just be a case of “do as I say, not as I do,” because I’m often dashing off to the store a couple of days before Christmas for those last few gifts on my list. Fortunately, we have a Shoppers Drug Mart just around the corner. It’s open late too, so it’s definitely a convenient place for me to shop, last minute or not.

Still, I’d like to think that one year I’ll get it together and have all my Christmas shopping finished early. When I was a teenager, I loved to sit on my bed with a little mirror and practice applying makeup. I would do a full smoky eye, soft pink cheeks and a red lipstick. My hair was quite blonde then and my style icon was Marilyn Monroe (the inspiration for my red lipstick!).

These days I don't have as much time to play around with makeup. In fact, I usually apply it quickly before heading out the door. That's sort of a shame, because when I put a bit more time and effort into my makeup I always feel good about it. And I still love the feeling of applying a new lipstick or eyeshadow in a fun, vibrant colour.

Our holiday to-do lists are long - shopping, party planning, baking, cooking and preparing the house for guests. While some things must be done last-minute out of necessity, we can avoid a holiday meltdown by taking shopping off the list as early as possible.
