How To Get A Photo Printed On Canvas (With A Giveaway)

Although I'm a big fan of white and light grey paint on walls, I feel it's important to add colour, texture and personality through accessories. I particularly like to liven up our home decor with artwork. My husband and I used to collect all kinds of unique art pieces when we were younger. Since we've had kids, though, we tend to look for art that is more personal and also less expensive (because who has the disposable income anymore?).

Our latest piece of artwork came to us courtesy of the folks at CanvasChamp. It's an image that's special to me because it's from one of my favourite places. I took this photograph on a secluded private beach down the road from the farmhouse my dad grew up in. It's in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, one of the most gorgeous places on earth. Some of you may know that my kids are teenagers now, so obviously this photo was taken a while back. That's parent life, right? We don't get photos printed as fast as we would like. But it's super easy to get your favourite family photos printed on canvas, turning them into personalized artwork for your home. Here's how it's done:

Visit CanvasChamp to start your order. Choose the size of your canvas. Mine is 16" x 20". You can see that even that fairly large size is quite affordable at $16 Canadian (plus delivery).

Choose the style of your canvas print. I chose a single image, but you can also do something fun like a split canvas print or a photo mosaic.

Upload your image. Position it on the canvas as you like.

Choose the wrap and border styles. I chose a plain black border to give the effect of gallery artwork.

Choose from hanging options and add an effect (like sepia) if you wish.

Select whether you wish to laminate the piece or not. Choose from retouching options. That's it! You can go ahead and check out now. So simple. The hardest part is choosing your photo.

My photo canvas print arrived in just a few business days. The canvas is lightweight so it's really easy to hang, although I just leaned it against the wall on top of our dresser because I don't like putting holes in my wallpaper. This allows me to switch out the artwork easily too.

Photo canvas prints are great because they allow you to highlight the special moments and people in your lives. They really help turn a house into a home. As a writer for magazines, I have toured many gorgeous, professionally designed homes and found them lacking in personality.

Your home doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to feel special to you. (And who has time for perfection anyway? We need to be more about enjoying the summer right now!) This photo canvas print of one of our Nova Scotia family road trips brings me back to that special time and place every time I see it.

You can personalize other home decor items with your special photos too. How about a custom photo pillow with a wedding photo on it? I also like the idea of turning your child's photo into pop art and placing it proudly in their room.
