What I Ate Wednesday

The blog has been very much on a loose summer schedule lately. Actually I have been on a loose summer schedule - staying up late watching episodes of The Fosters on Netflix and waking up late in the morning. I will hate (with a passion) to see summer go, but I always enjoy the return to a more solid routine.

I'm happy to be back with another What I Ate Wednesday post today. I'm doing a "proper" What I Ate Wednesday - a look at a full day of eating, starting with the breakfast smoothie above. Even though I've been waking up late, I'm still not really hungry in the mornings. I prime the pump with a green smoothie with kale and peanut butter on most days.

It's a good thing I started the day with some kale, because I got onto the telephone and talked right through lunch. In the meantime, my husband had made quesadillas with refried beans inside and vegan sausage on the side. I ate a little bit of cold food and neglected to add any vegetables.

I received a package of Hungry Buddha snack packs that day and my daughter immediately wanted to sample them. We started with the Cheeky Chocolate variety, a mix of coconut chips, cocoa and sweetener. They were really good. My daughter also tried the Heavenly Honey coconut chips and liked them, although not as much as she liked the chocolate kind. There are also Smokin' Sriracha and Classic Coconut varieties, which I have yet to try. I'm not a huge sriracha fan, but I expect my son and my husband will like that variety.

My daughter made some banana-strawberry "nice" cream and offered to share with me. It's always nice when somebody else makes you a treat - even if you get stuck with the dishes afterwards.

My husband has inherited his mom's ability to make a delicious tomato sauce. He made spaghetti and sauce for dinner. The kids were out so we didn't even bother to make a salad for the two of us. I had been shopping while he was cooking and I picked up Zevia Zero Calorie Soda, Cherry Cola while I was at the health food store. I had tried another flavour of Zevia quite a long time previously and found it lacking in intensity. The Cherry Cola was better although still lacking robustness. I guess that's because it's sweetened with stevia? It's a viable option if you are looking for a naturally sweetened, calorie-free beverage.

We took the kids to Canada's Wonderland (amusement park) after dinner and I didn't snack on anything. There really isn't anything vegan to snack on there (although they have a few vegan meals) and everything is overpriced anyway. When we got home I had a bagel with peanut butter and jam. (It was 11:30 at night so I didn't even think to take a picture!)

Are you keeping on schedule this summer or enjoying more relaxed days? Are you looking forward to the routine of fall?

  1. I've definitely had a more relaxed summer (in terms of meals anyway!) but now I'm kind of getting back into a routine!

    1. Yeah, I guess we have to flow with the seasons. I enjoy summer immensely, but routine is nice too. :)

  2. I've been having a more relaxed summer too! I've been waking up late, and haven't made myself a green smoothie in ages -- I need to get back into a routine!

    1. It's so nice to sleep in, isn't it? I am starting to set my alarm earlier now and I need to start making more salads and veggies. :)
