What I Ate Wednesday

Isa Does It marbled banana bread

Have you started your holiday baking yet? I feel like it's too early, and here's why. If I make cookies and squares now for Christmas, I.will.eat.them.all.before.Christmas. Even if I put them in the freezer. I mean how long does it actually take for cookies to defrost. Seconds, right?

Nevertheless, I have done a bit of baking this week. All of which, naturally, was soon eaten. Not just by me, thankfully. I have a family to feed. I relied on Isa Does It for several recipes this week. Like this marbled banana bread, above. (Clearly I don't know how to "marble.") Love, love, love the cookbook, but have to say this isn't my fave recipe.

Isa Does It Jumbo Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

I also made Isa's jumbo oatmeal raisin cookies. They were soooo good. The recipe makes 10 big cookies. We really could have used 20! Going to try doubling it next time! These are good old-fashioned chewy oatmeal raisin cookies with a hint of cinnamon.

Isa Does It pancakes

I made pancakes from Isa Does It one morning for breakfast too. Delicious. (I tend to focus on one cookbook for the week. It keeps me from buying groceries and then forgetting what recipe I intended to make. Does anybody else do that?)

Isa Does It Down-Home Curry

I made Isa's Down-Home Curry With Tofu & Broccoli for a second time. I actually saw a picture of it on my own blog from the last time I made it and it set me to craving it again. My favourite part is the broccoli, enveloped as it is in a tasty curry sauce.

chickpea and potato roti

Here's something I didn't make. I picked this up at a local Jamaican place one night. I have yet to learn how to make chickpea and potato roti. But I do so love eating it.

rotini and roasted veg stirfry

This was my meal from a low-on-groceries and motivation day. I had leftover rotini in the fridge and leftover roasted veggies. So I mixed them together, added a little soy sauce, fried 'er all up and voila, lunch.

vegan fried rice

Another not-too-inspiring but tasty meal - fried rice with tofu, broccoli, carrots and peas. There are days that just call out for fried rice!

Have you started making holiday sweets? Can you keep 'em in the freezer and ignore them?

  1. I'm ashamed to admit how many gluten free cinnamon rolls I ate as soon as they came out of the oven. But hey, tis the season right?!

  2. I like the idea of focusing on one cookbook a week, otherwise I just forget about all the wonderful cookbooks sitting on my shelf and usually turn to google when I'm looking for recipes :)

  3. Oh, that all looks so good! I love Isa Does It, and you made some of my favorites. I wish I had a Jamaican place close offering chickpea potato roti. That looks fabulous!

  4. I'm going to be baking this afternoon for a Christmas party I'm hosting tomorrow night. I'm hoping that all of the cookies will be eaten or taken home so that my husband won't eat them all! I don't crave sweets as much as he does, but he'll eat them for breakfast if they're sitting out! You're really making me want to get that Isa Does Cookbook. Everything you've made looks amazing!

    1. Sounds like you need to hide the cookies at the bottom of the freezer if there are leftovers, huh? ;) I won't eat them for breakfast...but if it's past noon all bets are off! Yes, Isa Does It is well worth getting. Lots of yummy recipes. :)

  6. I make some version of broccoli, pasta, and beans every single week. It just seems to be what's always hanging around to qualify as dinner. Your week looks delicious... And Christmas baking? No way, I still haven't even done any shopping- yikes!!
