Tea for Two

While staying with my parents this weekend, my little girl and I went to the last day of the local library's summer book sale. You could fill a bag with books for only $2. I didn't find many books I wanted, but I did fill a bag with movies on VHS. I thought my son would enjoy watching films from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones series.

We don't generally watch movies on VHS at home, but I like the nostalgia of watching them at the cottage. Unfortunately, when we returned to the cottage with my bag of VHS movies, my husband informed me that neither one of my parents' VCRs was working. Now I have a bag of VHS tapes to add to my collection at home.

But I digress. After the library book sale, we popped into the local thrift store for a quick peek. I am much more picky about what I buy now because I have run out of storage space. But I couldn't resist the colour and design of this sweet little tea set for two. I imagine serving some lovely jasmine green tea in it, although I probably never will.

It came with this handy box to display it in. While it's convenient, I do think it takes away from the beauty of the tea set. Maybe I could paint it?

Did you find any treasures this weekend?

  1. Great tea set. I also have a giant collection of VHS tapes. I was really into movies in college and resisted the move to DVD. Now we rarely watch them, James is biased against the old technology ;)

    1. My husband is the same way! But those VHS tapes are much sturdier than DVDs, aren't they? :)

  3. I have quite the VHS collection myself. I currently have one dual DVD/VHS player, and I live in fear of the day it dies!

The tea set is stunning -- great find.

  6. I LOVE that tea set ... amazing colours around the rims :) You're right, the box just kills it and it's hiding too much of the pieces. I would just let the set shine outside the box (ha!) on a little mat. I have two dresser drawers full of VHS tapes and I still use them for visiting little people. I prefer DVDs however, for their convenience and smaller size. And why don't you use your tea pots?! Wendy

    1. Thanks Wendy! Thanks for your advice on the box. I agree.

      I don't know why I don't use my tea pots...I'll make an effort. :)

  7. The tea set is just lovely, I would have been tempted too--and I don't even drink tea.

We still buy VHS tapes, sometimes they are just so darned cheap it is hard to resist--and there are still a few movies that we enjoy that haven't made the leap to DVD for some reason. We have two of the VHS/DVD players and another VHS in the basement in storage. I noticed somewhere was still selling the dual players as well, so we are not alone!

  9. So pretty! Maybe just lighten & distress the tray a bit, to highlight the colors without becoming a focal point? So pretty! More than makes up for the VHS tapes without functioning player, at last in my opinion!

  15. I am now going to brew myself a cup of tea and pretend it came from this beautiful pink teapot. A pity about the VHS players not working.

    1. I have a tea pot fixation, unfortunately. I could have only passed it up if it were chipped Kate.
