What I Ate Wednesday

Welcome to another What I Ate Wednesday. Before I get to my list of Tuesday eats, I want to show you some other highlights from the week.

Although I have the occasional decaf coffee, I am more of what my mom would call a "tea granny." Must be the Irish in me. I believe there are few problems a cup of tea won't help with. That's why I love the idea of a company that allows you to send out "tea notes" to friends and family.

Cassie from Tenota, a tea-gifting business in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, sent me a lovely tea note, which is a  custom message on a tea tag and a bag of premium tea (in this case their "Sencha Lovin'" tea, a green tea with a sweet, nutty taste). Cassie says that the notes help people connect "in a meaningful, delicious, feel-good kind of way." Tea notes also make a great wedding or party favour. It also gave me a reason to use the pretty tea cup my daughter gave me for Mother's Day.

On Saturday, we celebrated the long weekend with a family sushi party. I already mentioned it in my "The Weekend" post, but you know what? I just can't get enough vegetarian sushi, and I know many of you can't either. As I said in the other post, my husband and I enjoyed our sushi and rice with margaritas. I honestly think I'd be happy doing the same every night. The sushi at least.

Now for Tuesday's eats. I started the day with a smoothie that I call "Breakfast in a Cup Smoothie," because I put so much fruit in it, along with spinach and baby carrots. It kept me full for a while.

At lunch I had a big salad and some leftover rapini pizza. I am wishing I had more rapini to make more of this pizza right now. I'm thinking pizza for lunch, sushi for dinner, just about every day. What do you think?

I like to tell you any time that I find a tasty gluten-free product, because I know that experimenting with gluten-free options is expensive and some of them are not so good. I wasn't expecting much of these Glutino crackers, but they are quite addictive. I had them yesterday afternoon with hummus. I even caught my son finishing off a box of Glutino vegetable crackers the other day. That's saying a lot because he avoids anything organic or gluten-free. Please note that these crackers do contain eggs, as many gluten-free products do. Although my diet is over 90% vegan, I do consume eggs occasionally.

I neglected to take a picture of last night's dinner, but there wasn't much to show. We just threw together some tomato sandwiches and salad.

I am late with my post today, so I am adding some pictures of what I have eaten so far today. This was breakfast, quickly eaten before I headed to my daughter's class to help out with the Scientist in the School program.

I accidently bought Nature's Path Hemp Plus Frozen Waffles, thinking that they were gluten-free. They aren't. They are delicious though. Nature's Path has several tasty gluten-free waffles and cereals, listed here.

I just ate part of my lunch, this veggie burger. For the past few weeks, I have been enjoying my veggie burgers on Udi's gluten-free classic hamburger buns (which also contain eggs). I don't like a lot of bun with my burger, so I have been cutting a slice off the top half of each bun. I was throwing the slices away until I realized that I could put the cut portions back in the freezer. So, for every two buns, I get another little bun. If you have ever bought gluten-free buns, you know how expensive they are. This new practice gives me six buns for every bag of four. Who doesn't need to save money?

How do you save on groceries?
