The Weekend - Mother's Day edition

I hope you all enjoyed a peaceful Mother's Day weekend. My plan for Mother's Day was to stay in bed, and that's what I did for the most part. This was the view from my breakfast tray. It's a good thing that my plan involved staying indoors, too, because it was windy, rainy and cold outside. There was a lot of hail and even some snow. Yuck.

I prepared a pile of magazines in advance. I am a complete magazine addict. I use the excuse that I studied magazine journalism in university. That's a good excuse, right? The thing is, I don't always get to actually read all of the magazines I subscribe to. I figured Mother's Day would be catch-up day.

The kids had other plans. My girl read to me from the book she bought me last year for Mother's Day, about all of the reasons she loves her mom.

Then the kids and Jolene the beagle mix hung out for a bit. If you follow me on Instagram (ziajojo) you saw the dance performance that took place right on my bed.

Eventually the kids grew tired of hanging out in my bedroom and went to watch a movie with their dad. First they gave me lots of sweet gifts, including this scented vegewax candle. It has a lovely green tea and cucumber scent. My daughter also set me up with my iPod and put on one of my favourite playlists, with lots of peaceful songs from artists such as Band of Horses, Mason Jennings and Fleet Foxes. I settled in with a cup of tea and made my way through a few of those magazines. All in all a very nice day.

How was your weekend?

    1. Thanks Keith. Yes, there is, but I didn't show you the arguing or the dog eating a bag of candied almonds that I got for Mother's Day. ;)

  4. Sounds so decadent! I've never spent the entire day in bed, although it does sound soothing. You look like you were treated very well, and it was so sweet of your daughter to read the book again to you ;) Wendy

    1. It was nice, although I got a bit groggy from lying around. Still, I recommend doing it now and then. :)

  5. Do you find that the magazines seem to pile up these days? I don't get as many as I used to and still they seem to be waiting for attention...

  9. My family had grand plans of cleaning the house spotless, but they only managed to put away their own things without me asking them to...which is a lovely gift in itself! Your day sounds very relaxing. I love it.
