Mrs. Crafty - and why I heart Justin

I had big, big plans this past Sunday. Yep, they involved putting away the baskets and baskets of laundry that can be found all over my bedroom, the kids' rooms and the upstairs hall. It's all washed and dried - it's the putting away that I really hate.

Anyway, my daughter had different plans for me. She thought we should dive into some of the cute craft books we are starting to accumulate. Who can say no to that? She went through each of our awesome Jane Bull books, as well as the adorable Aranzi Aronzo book I told you about recently.

She put sticky notes on the projects she was most interested in, and then we narrowed them down together. I kind of directed her towards the low stress, easy projects.

Since my girl happened to be going to a birthday party that afternoon, we decided to make a special homemade gift for her friend. We chose to make a mini felt cupcake with embroidery sprinkles from Jane Bull's "Made by Me." This is a great project for kids. My daughter was able to do all the sprinkles herself. We elected to sew a safety pin on the back, turning our mini cupcake into a brooch and making it easy to fasten to the ribbon on the gift.

My friend Pam tells me, "Nobody likes a show-off." So, lest you think I'm an overachiever, please know that I normally find a gift bag at the last possible second, squeeze the gift inside and shove some crumpled pieces of tissue on top. I have to say, though, that taking the time to make the wrapping a little more special was fun.

I'm guessing we're going to have to make another cupcake for my daughter to wear. No worries - it's a simple project and it only took us about 40 minutes.

We also started on another simple project, the "Mr. House" key ring from Aranzi Aronzo's "Cute Stuff." My daughter noted that ours should be called "Mrs. House." I like your thinking girl. Of course, she picked out a couple of shades of pink felt for this project. Once she was off to the birthday party, I finished this one myself. She wasn't happy about that when she got home, but I really just wanted to get it done and get the supplies put away. This wasn't my favourite kind of craft because I have large fingers and I found cutting and gluing the small pieces very fiddly.

Why I Love Justin Timberlake

No, it's not because of his music. (Sorry if you are a fan.) It's because he is awesome on Saturday Night Live.

And what does this have to do with anything? I'm glad you asked. I have FINALLY created a Facebook page for Woman in Real Life, and I decided to post a fun video to launch the page. I chose a hilarious (and appropriate) video of Justin Timberlake.

Visit my page here and tell me if you love Justin too! And please "Like" my page while you are there. Thanks friends!

  3. The cupcake is really cute ... I'm glad you "showed off" and are proud of what you and the prima donna created together. Did your daughter get stuck with the safety pin?! I'm curious about her t-shirt too. And please know that if I was on FB I would "like" your page (but I'm not). Have a great weekend Jo! Wendy :)

    1. Thanks Wendy. You are a doll! I did not stick her with the safety pin, which is surprising because she never stays still. My sister gave her the t-shirt. She always gives the kids cute clothes. You haven't given in and joined Facebook yet huh? Probably a good thing, because these blogs take up enough time, right? Have a great weekend too! :) Jo
