Insta-Friday in real life...with an Italian wedding celebration

Insta-Friday -- my look back at the week using family cell phone photos. This week, I am showing pictures from last Saturday when we went to a wedding celebration.

My husband's cousin in Italy got married and came to the US and Canada for her honeymoon. Ontario in January? Interesting choice.

Anyway, some relatives of the newlyweds had a party for them. Yes, there were showgirls, but I'll get to that later.

Of course, there was lots of food and wine:

This is gluten-free corn pasta they prepared for my sister-in-law. I prefer to have gluten-free too, so we shared. It was very tasty.

I got to take home the lovely flowers, because my husband's birthday was closest to the wedding date.

Here are my wonderful in-laws.

The kids got their own table, so they were thrilled. They kept going back to the bar for more pop.

You can see how happy they were. Look at my nephew in the background there. So cute.

Do any of the kids look Italian? My sister-in-law and I were discussing this at the party, but it's hard for us to judge. They are all a mix of Italian and Nova Scotia/Newfoundland types.

Okay, so in the many years I have been with my husband we have celebrated many Italian-style weddings, but this was a first for both of us. Our daughter and our nieces came out of the bathroom and said they saw some girls getting changed in there and that they looked like "pole dancers." How do they know what pole dancers are anyway?

Well, thankfully they weren't pole dancers...more like showgirls. Still, I admit I was a bit shocked. They just looked a bit young. But that didn't keep me from taking photos. My daughter and three nieces all take regular dance lessons, but I reminded them this isn't quite what they are training for. Here's another look at my son (centre) and his male cousins with the dancers. A proud moment.

How was your week?

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Hoochee Mamma!! What an exciting time you must've all had! I was just in Italy last summer, and if I lived there, nothing could have dragged me to Ontario in winter (with no snow!) for a holiday, much less a honeymoon. Did the showgirls show the dancing cousins any new dance moves?! Wendy

    1. No kidding Wendy - I think I would stick with Italy! I hope the girls don't retain any memory of those dance moves. ;)

  3. The look on your son's face is priceless! What an...interesting twist? We are part Italian {my great grandpa snuck into America via Canada after fleeing Mussolini...illegal immigrants for the win!}, but northern Italian {I come from all the pale people-- Swedish, Northern Italian, Irish, French...sigh} ANYWAY its hard to tell by looking at someone!

    1. You are right, you can't really tell. There are mixes. ;) My son wouldn't normally even pose, but he doesn't mind going along with his cousins.

  8. Looks like a fun night! I can't really tell if my children look Greek, my family is Greek and husband's family have an English background. My son has my husband's blonde-blue eyed thing but his features are the same as mine when I was his age. My daughter has lovely thick eyebrows but they're actually from husband's side as they have those mad professor bushy eyebrows...

    1. That's so funny...mad professor bushy eyebrows. You never do know what characteristics the kids will have, huh? I would like to have more kids just to see how they turn out...but that's too much work for curiosity's sake. ;)

  9. The kids are gorgeous! I think they do look Italian...I grew up in an area with a lot of Italian families from all over (northern and southern) and I would have guessed the kids were from either and Italian or French family. Thanks for sharing!
