Insta-Friday in real life

The weekend's almost here. I hope you all have a good one.

I'm taking a look back at our week using Instagram photos. Follow me on Instagram @ziajojo if you are so inclined.

I took a photo of the banana bread with chocolate chips I made yesterday...just because. I love food.

Last Friday, we celebrated the start of the weekend by sharing popcorn and a game of Scrabble Upwords. We are having a bit of trouble with this one...we keep piling up the letters to change one word and not noticing that we are changing another word at the same time. Chipa is a word, right?

I told you last Friday that we had the Christmas tree up for an embarrassingly long time. We finally took it down on Saturday.

The tree had been in the corner of the kitchen. The day was spring-like in weather, so we even moved the area rug and the kitchen table and washed the floor. I kind of liked the kitchen without a table.

Alas, we had to move the table back. We sort of need somewhere to eat.

Cleaning that half of the kitchen, along with my kitchen organization last week, meant that my whole kitchen was clean...for the moment. I keep trying, but it doesn't really look like that anymore. Pesky family.

While we were in the midst of dismantling our tree, we discovered that some nameless somebody had spilled scented oil all over my favourite table in the front hall. Yep, it ruined the finish. Don't tell anyone, but I believe the culprit was the girl whose baby picture lies on the floor there. Very shortly before discovering this, we caught the dog drinking the water with the floor cleaner in it. With mishaps like these, it's no wonder there seems to be a common theme to the food photos I snapped this week.

Did you see it? Yes, there's alcohol in every shot. It's very unlike me...I promise. But there are just those days... And yes, I did put ice in my red wine...and ginger ale...I know, classy, huh? My husband took out an expensive bottle and he clearly felt he was wasting it on me.

The kids are lucky to have a techno-savvy granny. They can now chat with her using "Face Time" on my son's iPod. At first, they could see each other, but granny couldn't hear him. That's why he has the phone in his hand.

They quickly worked out the kinks. The kids even chatted with grampy for a moment. That's the closest grampy's ever gotten to computer technology. Granny's not going to be happy her face is in this photo, but you can't really see it, right?

Have a fantastic weekend friends. Any big plans?

  1. It's amazing how much better a kitchen looks without a table in it :) I cleaned my table beautifully last week and looking over at it now it is covered by kids games, water bottles, bits of a Barbie campervan, tissue boxes, pencil caddy, my order from iHerb, a box of washing powder, mixing bowls to put away, fruit bowls and papers... I guess my big weekend plans are to clean the table?

    1. Sounds like an exciting weekend. ;) I don't feel so bad - I'm not the only one with table issues. :)

  2. Oh wow!! Your kitchen looks amazing!! I'm doing the same thing in my lounge - gradually getting it de-cluttered and cleared! Trouble is I start with lots of drive and enthusiasm, then a week later just want it to be done!! We've just had snowfall for the first time this year so doubtless our weekend will be full of snow balls!! Enjoy! J9 x

  5. I took my tree down close to the first of the year, but it has sat on the porch ever since. The front porch. If it's anything like last year, it will sit there until spring break, at which point my son and his friends will drag it off to add to their bonfire. I was actually thinking of moving it to the back yard this weekend; it's embarrassing to see it on the front porch!

    1. Our town picks the trees up for composting. If you miss the pick-up date, I guess you are stuck with it. :)

    1. I love those kinds of benefits of technology. The constant games, not so much.

    1. Ella, you might just have an idea there! I thought of covering it with a doily but I didn't want the colouring from the table to stick on one of my grandmother's doilies.

  13. Oooooo look at that gleaming floor! How can you cover it up?! We often push our table to the side to set up buffet for large family gatherings, which makes the kitchen look SO much larger ... but then every single one of us at some point smacks their head into the low-hanging lamp that is usually over the table! Enjoy your weekend!! Wendy
