Enjoying our toys

Our little family of four has been enjoying just hanging out in our pajamas, tidying up the house and recovering from the sniffles.

We all have new toys to play with. My son is big into technology and is busy using his new iPod. Thankfully, my little girl still likes regular toys. I had the most fun watching her open all her cool girl toys this Christmas.

A couple of weeks ago, we were all playing with this rocking clown wooden toy that we bought several years ago. In the last few years, it hadn't occurred to me to buy the kids wooden toys. But, since even I enjoyed the clown game, it got me thinking that there isn't much more time to use toys like this with the kids, now that they are eight and 10.

So, for Christmas, my little gal got a few wooden toys, including a Melissa & Doug cake set and a mirror that you can decorate yourself. She also got a wooden calendar with pictures that you can stick on it for different events.

Yesterday, while we were doing some returns at Winners, she spotted a Melissa & Doug cookie set. I personally thought it was toy overkill time, but she asked if she could use money she got from Nonna and Papa for Christmas. Yes, I gave in to her middle-of-the-store public fit.

She has really been enjoying all of the toys, even now while she is suffering from a cold (and a bright red nose).

What was your favourite gift this holiday season?

*I just like these toys, by the way. Nobody paid me to say this.

  1. Ok, I would have had a public fit for those cute cookie toys too. Or should I say, I 'wood' have had ....

    1. You are so cute. :)

She basically wants something wherever we go. The boy too. ;) I guess I do too, but sometimes I resist the urge to buy. Sometimes.

  3. I'm a biiig wooden toys fan. I bought lots for my children when they were babies /toddlers and the best part is you can sell them on eBay for a decent amount when they're no longer needed :)

We got my daughter 'Make 'n' Break' for Christmas and she seems to enjoy it.

I'm looking in to more cooperative family games although sometimes the players argue about what one person should do next-- hardly cooperative!

    1. Good tip (the eBay idea)! Although, I was thinking these would be good toys to save for the kids. I'm never sure how much to keep for them though.

There is very little cooperation when we play games. We are all argumentative in this house, I'm afraid!

The kids got Scrabble Upwords for Christmas, and my son said he will not play it. Actually, he said nobody would like that game. Nice, huh?

  4. We have the same cookie set! I love wooden toys, too. Hmmm, best gift was probably the little getaway we took as a family at the end of the week, it was a much needed break!

    1. So, you have been offered many wooden cookies too. ;) A little family getaway sounds lovely, although I admit I'm stuck in lazy mode right now! :)

  5. Those lovely wooden cut-into toys remind me of when my two were younger. We had hours of fun with them and I am great believer in quality toys .. they last much longer and quite a few of ours I shall be holding on to. They are just too nice to give away (just need the space for them though ;) )

    Thanks for popping by!

  6. We got some wooden food and a play kitchen this year as well. It's fun, I do like toys... but we also have way too many already and it's only been two years! I hope we don't accumulate at this rate for the next decade :)

Glad you guys are getting some good down time.

    1. My little girl still wants a play kitchen but I think that ship has sailed! I'm afraid that you will accumulate at that rate for a decade. Sorry to say it, but it just seems to happen. We don't even buy much, except at Christmas and birthdays, but it seems to pile up!!

  7. I love wooden toys too, even though I don't have anyone in the house to play with them anymore! I saw those Melissa & Doug sets and I wished I had someone to buy them for! Your daughter is so lucky! Beautiful heritage toys too! Angie xo

  8. Sigh. I miss the toys days!! Gift shopping was much easier {and less expensive lol} when my kids were younger. That cake set is awesome!

  9. I love Melissa and Doug! My girls got the nativity set this year before Christmas because my husband said that I focus on telling them the meaning of everything about Christmas but the Jesus part. Being a mythology teacher, they hear all kinds of interesting nuggets. But my fave gift? Hmm. Snow on Christmas morning!

    1. That's cool that you can teach them about mythology!

Snow on Christmas is indeed a nice gift. Now, it can leave...please. ;)
