Blast from the past...family craft cards

If you are a regular reader, you know that my favourite thrift shopping is free. I call it "thrifting at mom's house." On one excursion into my parents' basement, I found these cool vintage family craft cards. I'm not much of a crafter, but a person can change, right? I'm trying.

You could do a whole blog just with crafts from these cards. Not that I'm going to do that. But I can do a few crafts at least.

There is a whole section on macramé. I believe my mom even took a class in macramé back in the seventies. She made the coolest macramé hanging owl. And this belt, which she gave to my daughter.

My sister must have been in on the crafty action too. I found this note in her tidy handwriting, referring to card number 228, potato cut printing. That's a fun, easy one to do with the kids.

One project that I really want to try is a mobile. Ever since my husband and I visited the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice on our honeymoon in 1999, I have wanted to make my own mobile, like this Calder mobile that Guggenheim owned.

Actually, I also wanted to set up a cot right there and move into the museum, with its amazing canal views.

Happy New Year friends!

  10. Have been away for a bit so I missed this post, but love it! I too was a macrame fan. I learned how to tie knots from Webster's Unabridged Dictionary diagrams. I taught my church groups how to make macrame plant hangers to sell at the church carnival booth, and I made my mom a huge wall hanging of a giraffe! Those were the days.
