Swimming and Shopping

This weekend, we visited my parents, who live next to Lake Erie.
We did a bit of swimming. Boy, the water was warm.
My sister came to visit too. So, we also did a bit of shopping. My parents live 10 minutes from a small town. Small town seems to mean small prices. We stopped at a garage sale, and I got this covered dish for $2.
I also got this bowl for $2. My sister thinks it has the look of coral.
I picked up this coffee pot (also $2).
And this pretty Wedgwood platter (for $3).
We also went to a lovely thrift store that had lots of dishes. Because my birthday was the next day, my kids wanted to pick out something for me. My sister helped them cash out so they could surprise me later. My daughter went with this Leaning Tower of Pisa cheese shaker.
My son got me this pretty jar. I actually told him to make sure somebody got me this. I want to put buttons in it (or maybe jelly beans).
I rarely leave my mom's house without taking home some of her old dishes. This time, I came away with this vintage fondue pot.

What did you do this weekend?

  1. You are the undisputed queen of the thrift! We had a wonderfully relaxing weekend {watching track & field Olympics style} until last night when a massive rain storm flooded the basement...again...sigh.

  2. Swimming looks like fun! It was so hot here I wish we'd gone for a swim. I'm the same way with pilfering dishes from my mom :) last time I wanted her small cast iron pot and she said no, I guess the line has to be drawn sonewhere.

  3. We were in Michigan this weekend, the heat was crazy and prices were crazy at an outdoor antique fair - no purchases made!!

  4. So fantastic! I found some covered pots kinda like that too, your 'coral' details are better than mine though!

    Great stuff!

  5. Hi Jo,
Looks like you had a great time relaxing and shopping. That's so cute your kids got you a few things. I can totally see buttons in that jar. : ) So, I was wondering if you're mom was looking for another daughter to adopt? LOL!
Hope you'll share your goodies at the Frugal Treasures party this week.

    1. I did have a great time. Thanks. The kids are quite thoughtful when it comes to gifts. I think my sister might have been behind the Leaning Tower of Pisa, though.

I'm sure my mom would take you. You would make a great daughter!

I will indeed come to your party. Thanks!

  8. Great finds! I love the vintage coffee urn and fondue pot. Orange is so fabulous isn't it! Looks like you had a lovely time on Lake Erie. I was up there last year at Geneva On The Lake and have a great time. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Those are such great finds! I haven't had time to browse through a tag sale all summer, which is a real shame since they'll start to dwindle down very soon as school starts again and the weather grows colder. Sigh...

  11. What a beautiful coffee pot! We don't really have 'yard sales' in the UK. We have carboot sales but people are starting to cotton on to the value of their stuff to other people and prices can often be silly! (although I am not averse to a bit of haggling if it's something I really want :-) )
