Thrifting Sisters

As I mentioned yesterday, we stopped in to visit my sister on Saturday on our way home from Niagara Falls.

My sister and I indulged in some cranberry-infused vodka mixed with Sprite while the kids enjoyed the swimming pool. And, no, we did not get too drunk to watch the kids.

We did leave my brother-in-law to watch them while my husband (who was not drinking) drove us to a couple of thrift stores. To tell you the truth, I hadn’t even thought of going. My sister is possibly even more addicted to the hunt than I am. But once she mentioned it—different thrift stores in a different town?—I just had to go.

And, boy, was I happy I did. The first store was a Bibles for Missions thrift store. The kind volunteer there gave me a brochure listing their stores in Canada, and I was delighted to find there is one not too far from me (about half an hour’s drive).

The store was just so cheap compared to my usual thrift stores. For $10.71, I got a whole pile of stuff.  I was so excited. Too bad they were closing in 15 minutes. Gotta go back!

The next store was a Salvation Army. Not as cheap, but I got a couple of good deals, pictured above. The canister set was $2.99 and the trivet was 99 cents. I just love the happy colours. The scarf under the dishes was 50 cents at the Bibles for Missions thrift store, where I also got the following treasures:

The cream and sugar set was on sale for half price, which made it 25 cents for the set.

The Corning Ware teapot was $1.50.

The green vase was $1.

I totally didn’t need the soup bowls, as I already have a bunch that my mom gave me, but I just loved the tureen, and they came as a set for $5. I’m thinking they would also be great for serving a fruit crumble.

The last dish seems to be an ice bucket. It was $1.

Overall, I spent under $15 for the whole haul! Pretty good, I think.

How about you?  Any great deals this week?

  1. Great prices at that little Bible Mission store! I love your finds, they're very cheery. :) Cranberry infused vodka mixed with sprite... Right before thrifting... Sounds like -a lot- of fun.

    1. Thanks Laurie. You just gave me an idea. A road trip through the U.S. just to hit different thrift stores. Now I just have to convince my husband. Somehow I don't think it will happen! ;) You could come thrifting in Canada. :)

    1. I like to mix old things with new things in my house. I am not set on one particular decade for the old things, either! Some things are from the fifties, some older. As long as I like it, it works for me! :)
