Strawberry Maple Nice Cream

This Strawberry Maple Nice Cream is a healthy, vegan alternative to ice cream. It is made with fruit, maple syrup and hemp hearts. It whips up in seconds and is creamy and satisfying. Gluten-free too!

Okay, guys - my dear friends, my peeps - if you haven't made yourself nice cream before, I insist you do it...pretty much right now! I know we are leaving summer behind, but this particular healthy yet sweet and delicious snack will serve you well all year long. And you can whip up this cold, satisfying frozen treat in mere minutes. Seconds really.

If you are an experienced maker of nice cream, you may wonder if this recipe is too simple to even warrant a blog post. But I'm here to tell you there are many, many people who still don't make this stuff. And it's ice cream, made from fruit. Is that not one of life's sweet mysteries? We ALL have to take advantage. My daughter makes this strawberry maple nice cream pretty much every day...and leaves the food processor for me to clean. Sigh.

So let's get on with this shizzle. (That's the word I use when I want to embarrass my kids. Like, if we are at some cool vegan restaurant, I'll be like, "I gotta Snapchat this shizzle right now.") I feel that it's not a proper childhood if you aren't occasionally embarrassed by your parents. You with me?

Yeah, so let's get on with this shizzle. Make this recipe. Eat this nice cream at night with chocolate chips and coconut on top. Then eat it again for breakfast the next day, with chia seeds and fresh strawberry slices or some such healthy fare on top. Change up your toppings and have it again the day after that. It's that easy, that healthy and that good. I promise. (I don't make any warranties as to the state of your food processor though. Just be sure you slice up the bananas before or after freezing them to minimize a bit of the hard work your food processor will have to do.)

Here is the thrilling part. This is what your vegan (but clearly meant for anyone) treat recipe is made of: 1 frozen banana, sliced,1 cup frozen strawberries, 1 tsp hemp hearts,1 tsp maple syrup. That's it! Healthy right? Breakfast food. Snack food. Heck, even dinner food in a pinch.

Then you can top your strawberry nice cream frozen treat with stuff like chocolate chips (my daughter's favourite), chia seeds, coconut flakes, dried cranberries, granola - I don't know - whatever you have around. So yeah, this is an easy recipe. But everyone needs to know it!

Do you make nice cream? What flavours? What do you top your wee frozen treats with?

  1. Looks good and sounds good, but I have no idea what hemp hearts are or where to buy them!!

    1. They are shelled hemp seeds, available at a health food store or in the healthy foods section of a supermarket. But you can totally do this with just the fruit too! I just add them for extra nutrition.
