Insta-Friday in Real Life

Happy Friday! How many of you are going shopping? I'm not sure how long Black Friday has been a tradition in the US, but it just started happening in the last couple of years in Canada. Because we celebrate Thanksgiving in October. Not that I'm complaining. A sale is a sale, and I am a woman, after all.

It's time to share simple cell phone photos from our week. Around here, we have been spending a lot of time at my son's basketball tournaments. His sister is getting used to watching.

She packs her own snacks, because she is always hungry...and I mean always. When I remember and have something handy, I will also pack a snack for myself. This picture (above) was taken on a good day. I had some Simply Bars left from doing a review, and I also bought a Pro Bar. Love those. The sesame snaps belonged to my husband. Whenever my daughter and I go to the health food store, she picks some up for her and her dad.

This guy isn't hungry as frequently as his sister. He generally eats his three meals and the occasional snack. This smoothie was well-needed after an action-packed basketball game, though.

My daughter used birthday money to buy a Blackberry tablet. In this picture, she is watching shows from the National Film Board of Canada's website. They have cool animated short films for kids (and adults too). Both of my kids (and my husband) enjoyed watching "The (Hockey) Sweater," a story that we regularly read with my son. Good Canadians, eh?

My daughter bought these reindeer earrings one night while we were out buying her new winter boots. My son also needed new indoor shoes for school. Boots, indoor shoes, outdoor shoes, dance shoes, basketball shoes, soccer cleats...I think I work just to pay for shoes and sports.

I do occasionally buy myself something. I went to the craft store on Wednesday to get some craft supplies. Today is a PA day for the kids so I thought we would do some fun Christmas-related projects. I also picked up this owl candle holder. It was half price plus an extra 30 percent off with a coupon. Because of that coupon, the lines to check out ran halfway down the store. That other owl is a fabric stamp. Not sure what I'm going to do with it. I just like owls.

As you know. Remember that owl paperweight I want my mom to give me?

I found this side table at the curb on my way back from my son's piano lesson. He grumbled while I put it in the car. It has a weird kind of green/white effect on it, but I'm going to paint it...one day!

  1. Hi there, I love the owl stamp too - something to grab and think about how to use it later!! We have to plan loads of healthy snacks too mixed in with a few treats of course! I've used one of your healthy bar recipes to great success - thanks! Enjoy your weekend, J9 x

    1. The stamp was so cheap, I couldn't resist. Even if we end up stamping a little tote bag or something, I think it would be fun. I'm so happy one of my recipes worked out for you. Which one was it? I should get baking today while the kids are home! Have a wonderful week! Joann

  2. I love everything you guys bought yourselves.. .And i would have stopped for the table, too (and my kid would have grumbled). I don't go near Black Friday - too many slow walkers (makes me cranky). :)

    1. Thanks Wendy. I bet you would paint that table quicker than me, though. Can I use the excuse of cold weather and pretend I can't just do it in the basement? :) I wouldn't do the Black Friday thing either. My kids and I went to the dollar store for some craft stuff today, but that's not affected by sales. ;)

    2. You would lose that bet, lol. I have 2 Lane end tables sitting in my garage waiting to be refinished - it's been well over a year.

As far as It's Complicated- I love everything about the movie (watched it again last night) but the home decor is especially lovely. Here is a link to the designer (she also did the set for Somethings Gotta Give which I love, too)

    3. I don't feel so bad about my tendency to procrastinate then. :) Oh, Something's Gotta Give is even better for decor! I love, love, love that house. Thanks for the link! I will study it! ;)

  3. Hello awesome roadside find! Good one. Love your daughter's new earrings. She is a real cutie that one. Both your children are and, in spite of requiring much footwear, must be a real treat to have in your lives.
