Are you a royal or a rebel? Personally, I think there's a bit of the royal and a bit of the rebel in every girl. Sure, some slide more towards royal on the spectrum while others have a bit more of a rebellious streak.
My little girl and I were watching Ever After High on Netflix the other day. This animated series follows the sons and daughters of famous fairy tale characters as they decide whether they will follow in their parents' footsteps. The royals are those who know they will follow their destiny, while the rebels are those who “rebel” against the path that's proposed for them. They write their own destinies.

As a parent, I can't help but want my kids to be a bit on the rebellious side. Sure it's harder for me (because it's me they are most often rebelling against!), but I tend to prefer that they question societal norms and explore their own creative paths.
The Ever After High series starts on "Legacy Day" and follows Raven Queen, daughter of the Evil Queen, who is told to pledge to the whole magical world to follow in her mother's footsteps. But Raven's not sure she has the evil heart necessary to take on her mother's legacy. The series targets girls 8+ who have outgrown childhood fairytales but appreciate a familiar story with an edgy twist.

If your daughter is a fan of the series, you can now find a whole spectrum of Mattel's Ever After High-themed dolls and clothing at Sears. The brand encourages girls to break from the crowd, be an influencer and not fear being different. It reminds me of one of my favourite lines in one of my favourite movies - Spanglish with Adam Sandler. "Between odd and the same, you gotta be rooting for odd, don't you?"
