Thrifting Sisters...part two...with a dispute

Back in June, I told you about a thrifting outing I took with my sister. This past weekend, she and I hit the thrift stores again. Bargain shopping is never far from my sister's mind, and I am easily convinced to go along. We were in my parents' small town, where the thrifty deals are greater than they are in my area.

At the first store we visited, I found this large Blue Mountain Pottery jar, above, for $5. The woman at the store said she thought it was hideous. Luckily, I know what I like...namely bargain-priced home accessories. I love the orange "drips."

I also got this cake plate, which has very small "feet" that elevate it slightly off the table.

I also snapped up these little bowls for 25 cents each.

Despite the fact that I have SO MANY dishes, I don't have enough little dessert bowls. I don't like eating my vegan ice cream out of a soup bowl.

Later, after visits to the dollar store and Giant Tiger, we made one last stop...this time at the Salvation Army shop. I got this milk glass vase for my collection. It was 79 cents.

What I like most about shopping with my sister is that she does some of the legwork for me. While I am looking at the dishes, she finds other kinds of items. She shows them to me and I persuade her to let me buy them myself. Like this message board.

And this cute silver leaf photo frame.

She also found this Guess wallet, in perfect condition for $2.99. They retail for about $45. Yes, I convinced her to give it to me. It took more time for this item, but I won her over. I know, I'm bad. She still wants it back. Lucky she's back in her town, and I'm in mine. She'd have to drive two hours to get it.

By the way, I took these photos in front of my parents' house, with their view of Lake Erie in the background. I completely missed fall on the lake, but even with winter approaching, I love the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore and the bleak beauty of the landscape.

  3. I happen to LOVE that "hideous" pottery jar. The orange drips are fabulous. Good job on the wallet! I, too, am a bit of an expert at getting my thrifting companions to hand over their finds. What can I say...it's a talent. ;)

    1. She had one more of the pottery jar in the same size, and two smaller ones (for $1 each). It was all I could do to keep from buying all four! I don't have the space! I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets others to hand over their goods. ;)

    1. I'm not a huge ice cream fan. If it was a pile of chocolate, then...
