In this moment - Welcoming a new year

Open your arms as wide as you can to receive the miracles with your name on them.
-Sarah Ban Breathnach, Simple Abundance

In this new year of wondrous possibilities, I hope that you will remember this quote as I will, friends. When you face those inevitable moments of fear, self-doubt, grief, anger and inertia, open your arms wide and believe that you deserve more. Be good to yourself.

In this moment, I'm thinking of these gentle plans for a perfectly laid-back New Year's Day:

Listening to - the hauntingly beautiful Tiger Mountain Peasant Song
Watching - Out of Africa - A couple of hours lost in breathtaking Africa with Robert Redford seems ideal.
Hoping for - personal and professional growth in this new year
Reading - Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy - my bible for each new year
Eating - the Flirt raspberry and cherry chocolate bar I got for Christmas
Appreciating - the blessings of a warm home and a family to fill it
Baking - vegan Scottish scones

My other suggestion for New Year's Day - take a bath - a long one. Bring a journal and your favourite pen to record your aspirations for 2014. Ideas seem to flow more freely in the bathtub.

What is your wish for this new year?

    1. Those are great wishes. A lot of our problems could be solved by simply breathing more deeply. :) And I really wish I could stick to a meal plan! Happy New Year!

  2. Happy New Year!

I have the Simple Abundance book. I purchased it many years ago when Oprah had the author on her TV show. Great book!

I made a load of resolutions for this year, and I am very excited about all of them.

I will have to try making those vegan Scottish scones myself. How did yours turn out?

  3. I do not see today as relaxing, I'd like to blog, I'd like to SMASH, but Christmas has to come down in this house!

Happy New Year! Enjoy your day!

    1. I am holding off on taking down Christmas decorations. I keep them as long as possible.

      Good luck with your tasks!

      Happy New Year Jill!

  4. Happy 2014, Jo!!! I think we're heading to the beach today (tradition for the first week of the new year) but your list sounds --really-- good! That and the quote is perfect.

    Cheers! :)

    1. To you too Wendy! :) I'm trying not to be envious of the beach thing, but it's very hard. ;) Enjoy it!

  5. Happy New Year! I just read on my friend Carol's blog that she enjoys Simple Abundance, so I need to get it…someone is trying to tell me to buy the book, I think!

Your New Year's Day plans sound heavenly. I hope you were able to do every wonderful thing on your list!

We had a large brunch and have relaxed the rest of the day. I'm ready for a movie now!

  6. For sure, get the book! You can find cheap secondhand copies now. I covered most of my list - watched Out Of Africa, ate chocolate, made scones. Had a nice day.

Brunch sounds lovely. Enjoy your movie!
