Brooches and baubles

Recently, my daughter asked me if granny might have some clip-on earrings for her to play with. She has pierced ears, but I guess she got it into her head that playing with costume jewelry would make for a good time. I knew that granny did have some brooches and baubles, because I used to root through her jewelry box as a child. I'm not a big jewelry fan (that's my sister) but I enjoyed looking just the same.

On our last visit to my parents' house, my mother had put together a package for my little girl. Above, a set of clip-on earrings and a matching pin. And more goodies. She said a couple of them might be real gold. And you are giving them to an 8-year-old? That shows you just how much she wants to clean house.

Here they are:

I'll be wearing this brooch.

I think these earrings (above) are my favourite. I would totally wear them too.

I am guessing these ones (above) might be from the eighties.

What do you think?

  1. Just gorgeous & so jealous! My grandma had tons of gorgeous rhinestones from the 50's that I used to spend hours playing with when we visited for the summer. She gave me some choice sets which I treasure to this day {and wear when the occasion is right}. You should make a treasure box for with your mini-you, to keep them safe in between dress ups!

    1. That's a great idea, Tabetha. A little treasure box might inspire her to actually put them back. Maybe. ;)

  3. Omg - Jo, those are actually worth some money! On a whim, I stopped by a garage sale and scored a bunch of vintage costume jewelry, a lot of it was signed Weiss. You'd be amazed at what you can get for pieces in good condition!

Anyway, they all are lovely - I think your mom has excellent taste... And I bet your sweet kiddo will have a lot of fun wearing them. :)

    1. Hi Wendy! That's interesting. I don't know anything about vintage jewelry and the value. I'm guessing my little one isn't giving them up now though! Thanks...I am sure my mom will be happy with the compliment (she reads my blog, comments and all!).

My mother in law is a brooch collector - and I'm always on the lookout for nice brooches for her... but lately... I when I see a nice one I kinda want to keep it for myself - she does not know that! ;P
