Strawberry Picking in Summer

I couldn't think of a better way to spend the kids' first day of summer vacation than picking strawberries at a beautiful rural strawberry farm. We took the kids and a friend to Spring View Farms in Leaskdale, Ontario. They have lovely, chemical-free, pick-your-own strawberries for a very short time in June. While the kids were a bit skeptical about a long car ride (it really wasn't that long!), they were more than excited when they got to the strawberry farm. As was I! I love strawberry picking and the chance to get out in nature for a bit.

I confess I took lots of photos, which cut into my strawberry-picking time a bit. But many hands make light work and, between the five of us, it wasn't long before we had plenty of strawberries.

It was the most beautiful summer day for strawberry picking and I gazed longingly over surrounding fields. City girl? Country girl? I can't choose. I like a bit (a lot) of both in my life.

I particularly enjoyed this moment when, strawberries picked and paid for, the girls lay down under a big tree, staring up at the canopy of leaves. It reminded me of how little opportunity they get to enjoy nature and all its offerings. I hope there will be lots more chances to do just that this summer.

How about you? Is strawberry picking one of your pastimes? How do you get your dose of Mother Nature?

  1. What beautiful pictures! (love your hat by the way you look fabulous for stawberry picking). I haven't been in a few years and really should go again. One of the things I love about summer is eating all that fresh fruit and veggies.

    1. Thanks so much Pia! My husband bought that hat for himself and I took it from him. ;) (I have a big head.) You are so right, it's great to have fresh, local produce available. :)

  3. What a lovely day :) Eeeevery year I say we'll go berry picking (just like eeeevery year I say I'll do a big deep spring clean...) but by the time I remember and google the best places, they've already finished their picking season! Great photos of your day, like always :)

    1. I know how you feel. I only manage to accomplish a small fraction of the things on my list. But we try, honey, we try. :)

      Thank you!

  6. Great photos! A trip to the local farm to pick fruit is fun for the whole family. It's great for kids to see where their food comes from.
