I didn’t have time to visit a thrift store this weekend, however I still ended up with lovely treasures. On Saturday, we were at my parents’ house celebrating my dad’s 85th birthday. Here is grampy with my kids (on the left) and their cousin. On Sunday, we visited my lovely sister-in-law and her family—husband, four children, large dog, two cats, rabbit, turtle, rooster and chickens. I’ll have some photos of that visit to share later this week.
So, because I am enjoying my thrift store finds so much, I went “shopping” at the best possible place—my parents’ house. My mom is happy when I “adopt” items from her extensive collection of vintage dishes. And this means shopping is free for me. Isn’t that the best kind of shopping? Also, she has better stuff than many thrift stores, because her finds was hand-picked over the years at flea markets, auctions and garage sales. So, without further ado, here are some of the items I scored.
My mom was kind enough to give me this Blue Mountain Pottery Lazy Susan. It was in our house for as long as I can remember and my mom would serve special meals like Thanksgiving dinner in it, with mashed potatoes, carrots, etc. in the sections. I need to put it to use myself!
I also got a Blue Mountain Pottery tiered stand. I can’t wait to use this.
My mom had previously given me this Blue Mountain Pottery bunny in the same gold and brown tones.
How much do you love this James Kent Old Foley Staffordshire plate? It is an image of Frans Hals’s “The Laughing Cavalier.”
I also scored two of these little tin serving trays. Love the retro pattern in brown and blue.
I had admired this little pedestal dish that my mom used for her keys. Now it’s mine! These candies won't last long.
I took six of these little wine glasses. She has six more for me to take later. Not that I need another wine glass.
I went home with this lovely green serving dish.
And the same vintage glass serving dish in a golden yellow colour.
How about you? Any great finds to report?
What a lovely place to "shop"! I especially loved the tiered plates!
ReplyDeleteHi Jeanne, Yes, I was fortunate this weekend! Joann
DeleteNothing like shopping at moms!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds at moms! I love when I can nab a nice vintage piece at my parent's :)
ReplyDeleteThe sad part is, I figure if it's been around since I was a kid, that makes it vintage! ;)
DeleteLOL tell me about it!
DeleteWhat lovely pieces your mom has (had!). I especially love the retro tin serving dish!
ReplyDeleteHi Julee, Yes, they are nice and I am happy to be the recipient! :)
DeleteWhat lovely Blue Mountain pieces. Well all of them really! And I do love the pattern too on the tray. Thanks much for linking at Cap Creations. May you have a great thrifting week!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting once again. Hopefully I will get out to a store this week, since I am not going to my mom's. ;) You have a great thrifting week as well.
Deleteholy buckets! you did score!!! my mom loves when i "go shopping" in her house too!
ReplyDelete--ok, in this early morning hour and just starting on the coffee...i read “The Laughing Cavalier.” as "the laughing caviar." and if it were so, wouldn't he have gotten some caviar stuck in that 'stache?
Hi Leah, You are so funny! You gave me a chuckle this morning. That is one special 'stache isn't it?
DeleteOh you have some real beauties here - and so amazing that you will lovingly treasure these from your parents ;)
ReplyDeleteI have my eyes on a few things at my MIL's but it's so not the same - she is not suggesting anything and I am not going to ask.
The bunny and the blue/brown tray are my favourites!
ps. Happy 85th to your dad!!!
Hi Ella, It is harder to ask an in-law for sure. Get your husband to ask. ;) Although, my husband does ask my dad for things because they have known each other for so long and my dad is happy to find a new home for some of his things. My husband scored our childhood movie projector this weekend, actually! Thanks for the birthday wishes for my dad! Joann
DeleteHi Jo, what great vintage gifts. I love how the collection of Blue Mountain pieces are being passed down to you. The two serving dishes are my favorite, love the design and lines of them. Going to yard sales and thrifting was something my mom and I shared. We used to map out yard sales for Saturday mornings, start at 7am and finish by 11am. Then we'd stop at a restaurant for a late breakfast and compare our finds! When she passed away, most of her things went to me as my sisters didn't have the same taste. More for me! -_^ LOL!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you shared great experiences with your mom. I am hoping to do the same with my daughter. Especially the breakfasts.;) How wonderful that you have treasures from her. My brother and sister don't share the same taste either. :)
DeleteSuch lovely pieces and what a fun place to "shop"! I especially love the Lazy Susan and the tiered serving piece. What wonderful keepsakes to cherish. I found you through Beez Frugal Treasures Tuesday party. I'm now following and look forward to seeing more of your delightful blog!
ReplyDeleteSharla

DeleteGah... I'm jealous, lol - everything is so beautiful plus it has sentiment - even better. I inherited my parents pieces and have them displayed around our home, they mean the world to me so I can imagine how special these are to you...
ReplyDeleteHappy 85th Birthday to your dad!!! :)
