What I Ate Wednesday At The Cottage

I am writing this What I Ate Wednesday from our cottage rental on Lower Buckhorn Lake. We have been spending time pedal boating, canoeing, swimming, playing bocce, napping and, of course, eating lots of yummy foods. Although we don't want to be slaves to the kitchen, cottaging also calls for good eats.

We brought our "new" thrifted pancake griddle and my little gal made delicious pancakes for our first morning's breakfast. We also had vegan sausage and fruit.

We are sharing our rental with my husband's cousin and her family and we are enjoying shared meals where everyone contributes something tasty. For one night's dinner we had a couple of kinds of rice, breaded tofu, salad, broccoli and sesame asparagus. My alcohol consumption has been a bit more than usual - I'm not saying lots at once, but a grapefruit beer or a Long Island iced tea with dinner most days.

For a peek at a full day of meals, let's look at my Monday menu. I started off with homemade vegan banana muffins and a cup of decaf green tea.

Lunch was leftover lentils and rice, homemade vegan potato salad and green salad. I washed it down with a Blue Sky natural soda.

For dinner we had an Asian slaw and a delicious pasta piselle (peas and pasta) main that my husband's cousin, Rose, made. Not captured on camera - my little girl made vegan chocolate chip cookies twice in the last few days. I made All or Nothing Granola Bars before we left home and popped them in the freezer - I've been munching on those pretty steady too. There have been salt and vinegar chips and a couple of rum and cokes too. It's cottage living after all.

Do you let loose with your eating/drinking on vacation?

  3. I'm actually going on a beach cottage vacation starting next Tuesday with my family, and this reminds me very much of that. We'll all contribute something here or there to a meal, and we'll all drink a little bit more than usual, but we'll also exercise in the mornings together and frolic on the beach all day. I'm excited, even more so after reading your post.

Thanks for linking up. Happy WIAW.

  5. Grapefruit beer sounds amazing! We just got back from camping a few days ago and I actually lost a bit of weight. I'm a grazer when we go camping, and food is just not a focus. We also use a and only have a fire pit to cook with, so that does limit things a bit lol.

    2. The grapefruit beer is so tasty - more grapefruit than beer. ;) Yeah, camping is a bit different - so hard to pack and cook a lot of stuff. I haven't been tent camping in a few years but it's lots of fun. I definitely didn't lose weight at the cottage...ha ha.
