What I Wore (with a Moonglow giveaway)

When I quit my full-time job to work from home, I almost immediately moved all of my dress pants to a box on the top shelf of my closet. I was tired of getting dressed up for work every day. At heart, I'm a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl.

I have since discovered that wearing jeans almost every day can cause you to grow tired of your jeans - particularly jeans that don't fit properly. I have several pairs (too many to count), but most of them are too low, thus pushing the tummy bulge up to prominence. Others are too big in the butt, causing the dreaded droop.

My husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday recently and I honestly couldn't think of a thing. I asked him to come to the mall with me to pick out my gift together. I picked up some comfortable (ie. no thongs) but pretty underwear at La Senza. And then it hit me - jeans! The first appropriate store I spotted was Buffalo and I remembered my friend saying she likes their jeans. I told the helpful sales girl that I wanted some jeans that were slightly higher in the waist (while not being high enough to revisit the dreadful eighties jeans). I also wanted them to be tight on the butt, with a pattern on the pockets.

She came through for me with this mid-rise pair of slight boot cut jeans. They fit super tight at the start, but they have a lot of stretch. ~~So far I'm loving them.~~ I bought the top at Suzy Shier. I'm a big fan of camouflage. The seahorse tote bag is an old favourite from Old Navy. I often use it to carry towels to the beach. (Just to give you a little update on the jeans - after I wore them a few times, I went to pull them up one day and my fingers went right through them, ripping a hole in the jeans that showed my underwear! I have never had that happen with a pair of jeans before - they are very thin! Buffalo wouldn't replace them. They gave me a credit for an amount that was less than one-third the cost of the jeans, which are no longer on sale.)

By the way, that's my favourite stylist, adjusting my top and telling me that my hair is messy. Listen, I have given up on straightening my hair because we have had so much rain this summer! Curly it is.

The only other pair of jeans I have that fit comfortably are these 7 For All Mankind jeans I got for a steal at Liquidation World. As for the top, I'm not normally a fan of animal prints. My clothes are a bit more "tame." (See what I did there?) But my sister got me this top. She is slightly more adventurous, and I figure it can't hurt to try to be a bit the same.

I dressed up both of these everyday outfits with my new Moonglow classic necklace with black Swarovski. I received it just around the time of my birthday, which is appropriate because the moon stage pictured on it relates to the day I was born.

This necklace is Moonglow Jewelry's original model, designed in 2003. Made of pewter, it features a black Swarovski crystal at the bottom. It has a vintage look and comes with the choice of a 16, 18 or 20-inch black pewter chain. Another cool feature of this necklace is that the moon, when exposed to light, will glow in the dark.

My necklace game in a black velvet pouch along with a card noting that my special date falls within the second quarter of the moon. The card notes: Those born under the influence of the second quarter are peaceful, analytical and detail-oriented, talented and often artistically inclined. Perceived as tolerant and approachable, they adapt easily to various social situations. Highly intellectual, they are on a constant quest for knowledge. A nice little stroke of the ego for my birthday, I should say!

Moonglow was founded in Montreal by artist and jewelry designer Luc Rouleau, who can be found in the Guinness Book of World Records for his memorization of calendar days and moon cycles. The Moonglow line now includes earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, keychains and anklets. Each piece is hand finished in Canada by Rouleau. One of my favourites is this sun goddess (and god) necklace.
