Seahorse Cupcake Wrappers & A Big Cricut Explore Air 2 Bundle Giveaway (CLOSED)

These adorable seahorse cupcake wrappers can be cut in any color with your Cricut cutting machine.

I am linking up with some of my crafty Canadian blogging friends today to share our most recent projects made with the Cricut. Many thanks to Ariel from PMQ for Two for hosting and also hooking us up with a special Cricut giveaway. (Enter to win your own shiny new beautiful Cricut cutting machine and a whole bunch of other amazing things below!)

My daughter and I were browsing the latest designs in the Cricut Design Space™ and her eyes lit up when she saw the lovely seahorse cupcake wrappers. Like me, my daughter enjoys baking. Cupcakes are one of her specialties. On the day we made these cardstock cupcake wrappers, however, we were light on time, so we bought cupcakes at the store. I'm actually happy we did, because I think this scenario better illustrates how you can buy simple cupcakes at the grocery store and whip together a few of these wrappers to make them look special. (Maybe you can even pass them off as homemade? I won't judge.) I want to show you just how we made the seahorse cupcake wrappers in case you would like to make them yourself.

The Cricut Design Space was updated recently and I really like the way it looks and functions. As always, you are not obligated in any way to completely follow the project specs in any given project in Design Space. Feel free to change the size of the cut image or modify the shape or change the suggested colours, as I did in this case. For these cupcake wrappers, you can select cardstock colours to suit your party's colour scheme or simply your mood. We went with dark pink and light pink cardstock rather than the teals suggested in the project.

One of the best features of the new Design Space is the search function. Whereas before you could only browse through various categories, now you can search for a specific keyword. For the seahorse cupcake wrappers, enter "summer soirees cupcake wrappers" in the search bar on the upper right.

In addition to the cupcake wrappers, you'll find coordinating projects, like the adorable seahorse banner.

When you click on the project, it will show you the materials needed. The seahorse cupcake wrappers are not complicated. Basically you need your Cricut, one or two cutting mats, two or more colours of cardstock and some basic tools. Click "Make It" (lower right) to make the project as is, or "Customize" to change the size or any other feature you wish.

Materials Needed for Our Pink Seahorse Cupcake Wrappers:

I selected "Customize" because I wanted to cut just one cupcake wrapper first to test out the size for our cupcakes.

I selected the extra cupcake wrapper images and used the X in the upper left corner of each to delete them.

I didn't bother to change the colours of the cardstock in Design Space but you could certainly do that if you wanted, just for the visuals. Once I had just one cut (two layers) left, I selected "Make It."

Although I am a Cricut Access member, with access to great fonts and images, this particular project does require purchasing the image for the cupcake wrapper. I purchased it for a whopping 89 cents with my Access discount and then we were off to the races.

I adjusted the machine dial to cardstock, adhered the first (lighter pink) cardstock to the cutting mat and my Cricut started its magical cutting routine.

The Cricut alerted me when it was time to remove the first mat and load the second mat with the darker pink cardstock. Once my images were cut, I needed only to remove them from the mats using the weeding tool and remove excess cardstock from the mat with the scraper.

I then glued the two cut layers together with a glue stick. The cut design even includes a slit in one end of the wrapper so that you can tuck the other end in it to keep the wrapper in place. It turns out the sizing of the cardstock cupcake wrapper was perfect for our store-bought cupcakes. So I went back to the original design and cut several more.

I cut some with the dark pink cardstock in front and some with the light pink cardstock in front, like this one above.

These cupcake wrappers are super cute and made our purchased cupcakes much more festive and fun for summer. Obviously they would also be great in teal for a beachy theme.

I really would love to make the seahorse banner as well, but I think my family would call for a garland/banner intervention!

Does this look like a project that would be fun to make for your family? Do you like to bake or would you be inclined to dress up some store-bought sweets?
