Thrifted Coats & Vintage Bliss Tuesdays Linky Party #58

Yum

Regular visitors will notice that this post is a bit of a radical departure from my usual Vintage Bliss Tuesday posts. I confess I actually went to Value Village to look for EVEN MORE plates and cutlery (see last week). But the crafty people at Value Village put the coats right near the entrance, where this coat-addicted gal couldn't help but run her fingers over them.

That's when I spotted this pretty ruffled coat from Lady Dutch, a Montreal-based company. It's not just ruffled, it's also belted and it even has a yarn-y, ball-type thing up near the collar. (My use of fashion terminology is impressive, no?)

The arms are a smidge tight on me, but I can deal with that. Just don't ask me to get you anything from the top shelf of the grocery store (it happens all the time and normally I'm quite willing). This Lady Dutch coat was $24.99. The kind lady who works at Value Village told me everything would be half-price one day next week, but I was in a different town and who knows if my little coat would still be there in a week? Not a risk I was willing to take.

I also picked up this Forever 21 army green jacket for $7.99. I'll say it again, $7.99! Who could resist? Don't let the hood fool you - this jacket is very lightweight, perfect for a spring day (and we've had a few of those this November). I have a heavier jacket that looks just like this, but I wore it for one season and all the seams started to split open. (It wasn't even small on me - even the arms fit!)

As to those plates and cutlery, I didn't find a single thing. But I emerged from the store happy just the same.

Do you hit up the thrift shops for clothes? Do you love coats too?

  1. I love coats! I drool over the coats at Vaute Couture but even if I was to spurge on one plus the shipping, the exchange rate is so bad that I wouldn't enjoy the coat! Ha, I visited Savers for plates etc for food photos last week but ended up with some clothes too ;)

    1. Oooh, now I've had a peek at Vaute Couture. Nice! And expensive. I rarely order from the U.S. because of the exchange rate, plus Canadian duties and taxes. :( You always get great clothes at Savers! Did you get plates too?

  6. Love both coats, awesome find and great price.
I collect vintage coats: the swing style or the rabbit fur collar or the bakelite buttons. The issue with vintage coat is, perhaps because of age they're very delicate. If I am sitting in the car I make sure I do not sit on them as I am worried I might tear the lining. One time I sent one vintage coat to the cleaner, it came back with a torn seam lining near the armpit.
Anyway, you are beautiful in that olive green jacket. :)

    1. I love vintage coats! My mom saved a couple from the 50s and they were really beautiful. Too bad the cleaners damaged your coat. :(

Thank you. You are very kind! :)

  7. Those coats are fabulous! I am not addicted to coats but purses and bags. Oh my, I do love them. Thank you for hosting. And yes, I am one of those vertically challenged who is always asking people to get me stuff off the top shelves in the store. LOL!

    1. Thank you! :) I hear ya on the purses. I don't often get them at the thrift store because I'm too lazy to search through all the crappy ones, but I love purses too.

I honestly don't mind helping people get items off the shelves. :)
