Vintage Carolyn Keene Books & Vintage Bliss Tuesdays Linky Party #50

It's September 8th already! Gosh, I didn't see that coming. (Okay, I saw it coming, but I stayed firmly in a position of denial.) The kids are off to school today, feeling no doubt the usual first-day mix of excitement and nerves. I wish all the kiddos starting school this week the best! Here's hoping it's the greatest school year yet!

It's a month past my birthday, but I saw my sister recently and she gave me these Carolyn Keene books that she so thoughtfully purchased for me. When we were kids, I was quite the reader - often preferring my books to outdoor activities. Nancy Drew was one of my favourite series to read. My sister (who is also called Nancy) recalled that I had a few of these 1970s Nancy Drew books and thought I'd want some more. She is an accomplished gift giver, suiting her choices to the person so well.

My daughter likes Nancy Drew now too, and I try to steer her towards the vintage Nancy Drew books rather than the newer ones. I just like the sweet feel of older books. Just today I could be heard saying, "Kids nowadays..." Ha ha.

My sister also gave me a book from The Dana Girls Mystery Stories, also written under the pseudonym of Carolyn Keene. I don't recall ever reading any of these stories before, so I'll have to give this one a read.

Do you have any vintage Nancy Drew or Dana Girls books?

  2. I love Nancy Drew. Mom just picked up half a dozen picture cover books for me a few weeks ago. I too, prefer the vintage books. It's amazing how well those stories have held up through the decades. I've never even seen the Dana Girls books, though. Thanks for hosting the party again.

  3. I never did read Nancy Drew as a kid. I may have to catch up on them now to see what they're all about! Thanks for the party!

    1. I would be interested to know whether they would appeal to an adult reading them for the first time. :)

  4. I was trying to figure out how I'd never read The Haunted Lagoon, then I finally realized that it's Dana Girls and not Nancy Drew. Somehow I missed that series as a kid.

Ever since I designed a quilt with Nancy Drew fabric a couple of years ago, I've been on the hunt for the books, trying to rebuild my childhood collection.

  5. I love Nancy Drew books. My mom enrolled me in the Nancy Drew book club when I was young and I would get a new one each month. I collect those like yours from the 1960s and also the older copies. I think they are much nicer than the new editions and they are the ones I want my granddaughter to read. She just started 4th grade and that is when I started reading them. I also read some of the old Dana Girls mysteries when I was young. What a nice gift from your sister! Thank you for hosting.

    1. A new one each month - how great! I would have loved that. How exciting that your granddaughter is at the right age to start reading them! I love seeing my daughter read the books I read as a child. :)
