Why My New Cellphone Rocks (Giveaway)

LG G3 cellphone

I've said it before - I'm not a phone person. I'd much rather chat over tea and goodies than talk on the phone. I think my limit is about 10 minutes and then I start to get a little bit antsy. I'm not a serial texter either. I think texts are super convenient and, let's be honest, they keep us from having to talk for a really long time on the phone. But you will never catch me texting throughout a restaurant meal or while over at somebody's house for dinner.

HOWEVER, I recently received a new mobile phone and I have to stay it has changed me a bit. My phone no longer rests comfortably in my purse for 23 out of 24 hours each day. "She" pretty much stays by my side. Why the change? Because, until I received my LG G3 smartphone, I didn't even realize my previous cellphone sucked. I kid you not. I couldn't even hear my husband (pretty much the only person I ever talked to) on my old phone. I blamed him. I told him to speak louder. I blamed the service provider. Little did I know it was just the phone. You should be able to hear on a cellphone? Oh.

But it's not just that. My LG G3 is pretty. She lives in a beautiful gold-hued case, with a circle cut out so you can see the old-school style round clock. The volume and power buttons are on the back of the phone in the middle so you can reach them easily without even having to move your hands (while you're texting - ha).

And the LG G3 is big. I was never the person who liked cameras and cellphones getting smaller and smaller. Sure, it's impressive when you can fit more technology in a smaller space. But I like some heft to my cameras and my cellphone - I want them to feel substantial in my hands so I have a comfortable grasp on them. It brings me back to journalism school, when we used pricey video cameras that sat solidly on your shoulder. Which is not to say that the LG G3 is heavy - it's just bigger. And the larger, 5.5" Quad HD display provides you with a visual experience at 4x the resolution of HD. Which is a fancy way of saying the display is big and crystal clear - perfect for someone whose up-close vision is going (ahem).

And then there is my absolute favourite feature of the LG G3 - the camera. I hear angels singing in my head when I think about it. Seriously. I am rarely this enthusiastic about anything that you can buy on this earth (besides food!) I just love this camera. Don't get me wrong, I'm still fully committed to my trusty Nikons. But, whereas I would always take a Nikon with me on walks at the cottage in the past, I felt comfortable tucking my cellphone in my pocket last time we went for a walk at the cottage. And I got some lovely shots. My favourite photo is this one of my daughter looking at the Grand River, above.

The 13-megapixel camera features an innovative laser-guided autofocus. Simply put, that means that the camera doesn't have to struggle to find focus, so you can capture kids and pets on the run more quickly. The LG G3 employs an infrared laser beam to judge the distance to your subject. The camera also has a dual-LED flash.

I can't say enough about the camera. I find that having a great-quality camera on my cellphone makes life a bit easier - it's always on hand to capture those spontaneous moments of beauty. (Oh those cute things that kids and pets are always doing!)

I rarely indulge in a selfie. They only remind me that (surprise!) I'm not 23. But the LG G3 has some very cool features that can make a selfie not only more tempting, but better looking too. First of all, you can hold up your palm up towards the camera and the phone will automatically start counting down to a selfie. And the phone's screen illuminates so you can take perfect selfies even in complete darkness-with a lighting effect that's similar to lighting used by professional photographers for beauty and portrait shots. And who doesn't love that? It gives a gently "airbrushed" effect to soften lines and wrinkles.

A very cool feature for parents with younger children is the LG G3's guest mode. It gives other users a completely different home screen so that you can restrict access to certain apps. You just have to create separate unlock patterns for you and your other little user(s). So your little guy can occupy himself with a game at the grocery store without messing up your phone features.

I read a couple of professional reviews of the LG G3 in order to better understand what features are available. The phone fares very well with reviewers. CNET rated it outstanding and noted that early reports from Korea showed the G3 selling like hotcakes, outdoing Samsung's Galaxy S5 by three times in the first launch period. Without a lot of cellphone expertise myself, all I know is that the phone is easy and enjoyable to use and has contributed to making this busy mother's days a little easier.

The LG G3's Smart Keyboard is height-adjustable, so you can choose larger keys or smaller keys - whatever you prefer. It adapts to your style too, reducing the instances of autocorrect embarrassments. As a former English major, I appreciate that! Another great feature is Smart Cleaning, which prompts you to delete unused apps to optimize battery life and keep your phone running quickly.

I have become addicted to the LG G3's calendar feature. Now that I always have my phone with me I have finally dedicated myself to using a non-paper calendar. And it has made it so much easier for me to keep track of the kids' appointments and sports events.

I have also been listing all of my grocery needs and to-do tasks on the LG G3's QuickMemo feature. I used to write my grocery lists on paper, but then I would run into the grocery store to grab something and I wouldn't have the list with me. Now I am always ready to pick up "a few things."

My poor husband is jealous of my phone. I may have actually texted him with this message one day - "My phone is awesomer than your phone." Yep, I did. And he was at work. "Not funny and not fair," was his reply. I feel a bit bad. But not enough to share my phone.

How do you think the LG G3 would make your life easier?

  4. The 13-megapixel camera with the laser-guided autofocus (I am terrible with focus) would really up my camera game. I take my phone with me everywhere but I cannot always remember to take my 12 MP camera with me on every little outing. So not only is the camera on this better than what I have, it is convenient and will be with me even when I am not prepared.

  5. I love the sounds of the camera - that's where I take most of my photos these days!

  6. It is heads over heels better than the phone I have now that likes to "lock" up on me if I as much try to look at the calendar. Not play a game or play music or look at a picture. Just the calendar. So in terms of improving how organized and uninterrupted it can make myl ife it'll help

  16. Are you sure the LG took those pictures not your Nikon? WOW stunning. The fact that it sits in a gold case with a old fashion round clock makes me giddy. I wouldn't call myself a serial texter either but I do find it so convenient over long chats well juggling 4 kids. The LG would make my life easier because with four kids I need a camera on my phone I can count on to capture those moments my DSLR is not at hand. My Samsung isn't cutting it these days... it is so slow and misses the moment :(

    ReplyDelete
  104. the two features I love about this phone is the camera and battery life. those are the main reasons why this phone would make my life easier. I don't own a camera and have used my phone for literally every single thing. It's my way to communicate online and off. I am working on starting a food blog and having a great camera is essential for great pics and the LG has a 13 megapixel which is so much better than my iphone, so regardless of how dark a restaurant is, I won't have to struggle as much to get the best picture. Also, the battery life ono my phone sucks, i'm literally carrying my charger around and always looking for outlets to plug my phone in. I have successfully found a perfect area at union station. Having a better battery life is important and would make my life so much easier if I didn't have to stop every few hours to charge my phone somewhere so it doesn't completely die on me. Thanks for the chance!

  129. I love taking photos so having a good camera with me would be ideal. The LG G3 phone is perfect because it has a great camera feature so I can take high quality pictures any where I go.

  132. This would make life easier cause I would give this to my husband who works away. His current phone drops his calls and the speaker is bad so he has a hard time hearing me. :(
