A Monster High Birthday Party (and a giveaway - CLOSED)

Unbelievably, my little girl is almost 10. My youngest child, a full decade old! I have trouble accepting that she is no longer my chubby-cheeked, sweet Gerber baby. But she is something just as great - a unique, friendly, happy, social being who brings sunshine wherever she goes.

We celebrated her birthday a bit early to coincide with a special arrival in the mail - a pre-release copy of the Monster High Freaky Fusion DVD. Watching this movie proved to be the perfect activity for my little gal's birthday, because it's all about teamwork, the power of friendship, individuality and acceptance of others. In other words, we are all perfectly imperfect and freaky fabulous.

With Halloween coming up, and a monster-themed movie to watch, my girl asked her friends to come to the party dressed in costume. And our guests were indeed freaky fabulous. They had such fun hanging out together, and the power of friendship to bring joy was fully evident.

Yes, with candy as party of our table display, the girls still opted to eat fruit. And Mom felt slightly less guilty.

After they had some pizza and fruit (and candy!), the girls headed to the basement to watch Monster High Freaky Fusion. The Monster High brand, which includes dolls, webisodes, merchandise and books, aims to inspire girls to be unique and self-assured. Likewise the movie encourages viewers to embrace their imperfections and express their individuality. The perfectly imperfect guys and ghouls of Monster High are encouraged by faculty members to “Be yourself, be unique, be a monster.” Although we kept the girls busy with a few activities, they really enjoyed the movie and stayed wrapped up in it until the conclusion. I confess I liked it too.

We also painted little pumpkins in gold and added our names to make place markers for our Thanksgiving tables.

We bought Monster High tattoos to entertain the girls too. They had a great time tattooing each other and themselves.

And the birthday girl's dad too!

After the movie was over, we went back upstairs to decorate cupcakes.

The girls really enjoyed choosing their own icing, sprinkles and toppings.

My son and his buddy got into the cupcake action too.

There's nothing like having children to show you how quickly time passes. As my girl turns 10, my wish for her is that she gets lots of opportunity to celebrate life - not just the special occasions, but the everyday moments too. Happy Birthday, sweet girl!

Do you have a friend or family member who always supports you, just as you are?
