The (Long) Weekend

With the Victoria Day holiday yesterday, our weekend was increased to a lovely total of three days. I'm not gonna lie - a lot of that time I spent doing laundry and attempting to get the kids to clean their rooms. It takes me longer to persuade/threaten/beg them to clean up than it does for them to actually do the tidying. We need to work on that for sure.

But we also fit in a few nice activities to take advantage of the spring weather. On Saturday we decided to brave the drive-in movie theatre, even though the temperature was expected to be about 4°C in the evening.

We brought blankets and sweaters (and a parka, in my case) and for the most part we were fine. We had to turn on the car a few times to warm up. Did you know that if you put on your parking brake, your car lights won't go on (and thus you avoid blinding other people)? Yeah, they announce that at the beginning of the movies, but apparently some people behind us missed that bit of info.

As is our tradition, the kids wore their pajamas, we scraped together some coins so they could play a game or two and the boys tossed around a football in the lot.

The drive-in had three movies per screen playing that night, but we were lucky to make it through two. Actually, I'm the only one who even stayed awake for the second movie - The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Had I known they would all fall asleep, I think I would have moved the car over to watch Neighbors instead. The first movie (the one we all managed to watch) was Rio 2. The kids really enjoyed that one.

On Sunday, we shopped...and shopped...and shopped. You know when you say that you're going to make a few quick stops? Yeah, that never works. My main mission was to buy patio furniture that was on sale at Target. I'm looking to make over our back deck a bit so we are inclined to spend more time out there. When shopping with the family though, everyone has different priorities. After about two hours of browsing in Target (bathing suits, shoes, hand soap, video games, etc.) we discovered they had sold out of the patio furniture on day one of the sale. But we can try calling later in the week. The truck comes in about Wednesday and the furniture might be on it. Maybe.

We also went to Walmart to get spray paint for a little cabinet makeover I'm doing. My daughter spotted this adorable retro looking bike there. It was just what she had been looking for these past few months. A retro look, a comfy seat and, best of all, a basket.

She couldn't wait to get out for a ride.

On Monday, with her brother heading off to a mini golfing birthday party, my girl was eager to have some friends over. Before they arrived, she made peanut butter cookie dough bites from The Oh She Glows Cookbook. The girls really enjoyed them. In fact, I had some trouble convincing them to leave a few for the rest of us.

Now it's back to the grindstone. How was your weekend?
