Insta-Friday in real life

Okay, how can it possibly be August already? And why do the summers fly by when winter seems to drag on forever?

We are doing our best to make the most of summer. Here are some cell phone pics from the past week to prove it. On Wednesday, my husband and I took our son and our niece to Edgefest in Toronto. Here's my niece, above.

Thank goodness for cheap plastic rain parkas. They took my umbrella away at the gate. Then it rained for about four hours out of the eight. We were pretty soaked and miserable by the time The Lumineers took the stage at the end. I have to say they are amazing, though, even when you are freezing! I have photos to share soon.

Here's a quick peek at Band of Horses. Also amazing.

Luckily, they let us bring snacks into the park. I hit the health food store first so we would have lots of good options. At the park, it was all chicken on a stick and hot dogs.

Yesterday, we arrived at my sister-in-law's house for a nice visit with family.

The kids are thrilled to be back with their cousins, playing in the great outdoors.

I enjoyed waking up to this view in the backyard - the chickens having a conference in the fire pit.

Have a great weekend...and a wonderful long weekend if you are enjoying the Civic Holiday on Monday.

    1. It's just so cruel to take away umbrellas in the rain. ;)

  2. Time just flies when you're having fun - and I think fun is so much easier to find when the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming! Loving your little snapshots of happiness! Enjoy the rest of your summer, J9 x

    1. Yes, it was fun despite the rain. I tried to hide my umbrella, but he found it! ;)

  4. Sigh. Isn't that the way? Take your son to his first fest and it rains...ah well, good way to learn that good live music is worth a little misery lol. And so many yesses to the flying by of summer. I have to report back to campus for the falls semester on the 14th and it feels that summer has just gotten started!!

I would be wary of the chickens. It looks like they are plotting something...

    1. I swear, in over 20 years of going to outdoor festivals, I don't remember being in the rain before. My poor boy! I think he enjoyed the experience anyway. And you are right, he learned the value of good live music. He normally likes hip hop stuff, but he kept mentioning how good The Lumineers and Band of Horses are live. I can't believe you are reporting back soon! Crap.

Yes, those chickens look crafty. ;)

    1. Hi Kate,

We are certainly trying. There's a lot of housework and writing going on too, but that's okay. ;)

  7. Your photos make your summer look like a pretty magical one! :-)

The lineup for Edgefest sounded pretty sweet as well - lots of great bands! Sorry to hear the weather was so crummy though! Why on earth is an umbrella banned? Could be a weapon?

    1. I guess they think we are going to poke someone in the eye with the umbrella??? I saw a few people who managed to sneak umbrellas by security, and I didn't hear about any injuries. ;)

  8. I'm jealous - I bet that was an excellent show. Your summers fly by - mine drag. I'm ready for fall. Your SIL's home/property looks like such a cool place to hang out and just chill.

    1. It was indeed a great show. I wish you could have been there. I am not ready for fall in any way, shape or form. ;)

My SIL's property is great for hanging out, for sure. The kids adore it. I have a few more pictures of their activities there to share soon. :)
