Dive Into Adventure with #TurtlesTale2

We are big on family movie nights in this house. Watching a movie on DVD makes for a fun and inexpensive evening of entertainment that's suitable for all ages. Of course, if there's food involved, that's even better!

Recently, my family got a sneak peek at A Turtle's Tale 2 - Sammy Escapes From Paradise, set to be released on DVD July 9, 2013. Summer calls for celebration, so we decided to build on our usual family movie night by inviting friends over to watch A Turtle's Tale 2 with us.

A Turtle's Tale 2 is rated G and is targeted to kids ages 3 to 10. We watched it with boys and girls ages 7 to 11 and they all enjoyed it.

Although the movie is a follow-up to A Turtle's Tale - Sammy's Adventures, it isn't necessary to have seen the first movie before watching the second. Nevertheless, my kids and one of their friends decided to watch A Turtle's Tale on Netflix first. Having seen the first movie, they were eager to watch the second.

In A Turtle's Tale 2, Sammy and Ray are mature turtles who find themselves trapped in The Tank, an underwater restaurant/aquarium. They must hatch a plan to escape and reunite with their grandchildren, Ricky and Ella.  But they’ll have to get past Big D and his dopey thugs first.  With the help of some unlikely friends, Sammy and Ray find that when you work together anything is possible.

The kids munched on grapes, snack mix and, of course, popcorn. I could tell they enjoyed the movie because they were so engrossed in it, right from the beginning when the two turtles are dramatically captured. They were amazed that anyone would capture turtles, and wondered aloud why they were doing it. There were also a couple of "danceable" moments too, when the kids rocked out to tunes like "Rock the Casbah."

Here's a little video review from my group of adorable (and sometimes silly) movie reviewers:

On a long and sunny Saturday evening, our DVD preview party turned into a family kitchen party and, later, an outdoor party around the fire pit.

We snacked on fruit, samosas, salad, lentils and rice and chickpea salad.

The ladies enjoyed sipping on Pool Party Sangria.

My husband made a selection of pizzas, including a dairy-free pizza with Daiya vegan cheese.

My little girl requested that we make cupcakes for dessert. We decided on an ocean theme, appropriate for A Turtle's Tale 2. We coloured some of the icing blue and topped each cupcake with a fish-shaped gummy.

Here's a preview of A Turtle's Tale 2:

As an added bonus, telling the kids we would have their friends over for a DVD party inspired them to help us clean up the basement first! Whatever works, right?

Do you have family movie nights at your house? What kind of movies do you like?

    1. There HAS to be food, right!! It's great if the kids are absorbed with a movie so the adults can chat too. :)
