Insta-Friday in real life...snow day edition

For those of you in warmer climes, yes, you read correctly...snow day edition. I'll get to that in a second.

Here's an Insta-Friday look at the week using simple cell phone photos. First, a couple pics of what Jolene the beagle mix and I did on Monday.

Having climbed the mountain steps in Hamilton on the weekend, I figured Jolene wouldn't be satisfied with our usual walk through the suburban neigbourhood. So, we headed out in the car to visit a nearby lake. Jolene lunged (and sometimes barked) at geese, birds and chipmunks...so, a good day for her, in other words.

Jolene needs to work on her car manners. She cries, barks at passing dogs, eats tissue the kids have discarded in the back seat and searches for any tiny crumbs left on the floor.

Now for the "snow" day. Yesterday, the school board cancelled the buses due to a threatening storm. With no sign of snow, sleet or freezing rain, my daughter decided she wanted to go to school. I'm sure my son never gave that possibility a moment's thought.

So, we spent the day together, just me and the boy. First, we took Jolene to the park.

Then, we returned home and had pink pear smoothies. I will be sure to share the recipe soon.

We watched a bit of snow start to fall on the deck.

We watched more snow accumulate on the front path.

And then we decided to go for all-you-can-eat sushi.

Sure, there were only two of us, but we still had to order all the stuff we usually get as a family of four...veggie fried rice, edamame, spring rolls, tofu, veggie green dragon rolls, cucumber avocado rolls, crispy rolls, banana mango rolls and more. We were confident we could handle it all.

Maybe our confidence was unfounded. Here he is losing interest in the sushi rolls. You know how they threaten that you'll have to pay for any leftover rolls? My son quickly added up the costs and decided that's what we should do. I, on the other hand, stuffed a few more rolls in my face.

Then the lady asked if we wanted ice cream...and guess what? Yep, he said yes. I told him he betrayed me. You can see he was forcing that ice cream down though.

Back at home, it was soon time to pick up my little gal. After a quick snack...or two...or three, she got ready for her tap and acro classes.

We headed out...and found that the snow was almost gone already. Rain was falling. Not freezing rain, just rain.

As you can see, the dismal weather didn't dampen my girl's enthusiasm.

With no storm in sight, I'm thinking maybe another snow day today?

How is spring looking in your area?

Have a wonderful weekend, whatever the weather may be.

  1. Looks like a fun day was had by all! Not having snow here, except in the higher foothills, but it has been very cool (4o's) and wet. Hope it warms up a bit for you. That sushi sure looks good. xx

  2. Sheesh ... This wicked storm that's been blowing all night is keeping me awake! Enough already. Looks like you had a fun (and tasty) snow day. And now I'm hungry for sushi.

    1. I think I am responsible for making quite a few people crave sushi. ;)

  3. SURPRISE NO SNOW DAY! They were calling for hail out here last night that didn't materialize, but it stormed mightily. Good for Jolene for having adventures-- only one of our 4 dogs travels well in the car, but even she gets all quivering with anticipation. Things 2 & 3 also share your son's amazing digestive system featuring the ability to jam in good healthy food, declare maximum fullness, then suddenly find room for something sweet.
& pats on the head for your daughter's decision to brave out the school day~*

    1. Even the potential for a snow day in April seems ridiculous. Mother Nature is not happy. ;)

I shudder to think how much my boy will eat as a teen!

  5. Yesterday was just crazy! My daughter was home from school too (since the buses were pulled), my son walks so had to go in (poor thing!) - and I have to say we had the loveliest day.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. I don't know. Right now, I wouldn't mind the almost 90, but I would get sick of that pretty quick too!

  8. My mom is a couple hours west of us, and she got snow today too! I am so happy that it was just a cold and rainy day here, I don't think I have another snow in me :) One way or another, we'll all be in flip-flops soon!

    1. I know what you mean! It's hard to cope with snow at this point.

I'm thinking I better get a pedicure just in case the weather suddenly turns dramatically. :)

  9. It turned into a perfect day for all ... your daughter's a trooper to rather be at school (hope you brought her home a doggie bag). My son does the same thing ... stuffs himself when we're out and then declares he wants dessert. It makes me a little ill watching it. Our snow turned to ice and all the trees were encrusted till about noon yesterday ... then ice pellets ... now rain. blah Enjoy your weekend! Wendy

    1. Actually, my daughter was mad we went for sushi without her, but she had the option. I didn't make her go to school. She would not have stuffed herself on sushi like the boy, because she likes to eat regularly ALL DAY. I would rather they eat a big meal and then leave the kitchen alone for a bit. I hope you are having a great weekend! Jo

  10. It's crazy that you guys are getting snow and it's mid April. Temps are finally pushing 90 for us... soon comes the whining that it's too hot. :) Looks like you and your son had an awesome day! Sushi...yummmmmm.

    1. Crazy is right! I can't believe you are at 90s already. That's crazy too. But you have the ocean to dip into. It's not all bad, right?

  11. Pink Pear Smoothies look delicious! And I love your back porch chairs...they certainly brighten up a dreary winter day (in April, nonetheless).
