Homemade Hostess Gift: Chocolate Macaroons

I promised I would share a homemade hostess gift idea with you. My daughter and I made these vegan chocolate macaroons recently to bring to a Christmas party. Actually, I measured out the ingredients, but she was able to do most of the work. So, if you are looking for a way to bring your kids into the kitchen without too much fuss, this is it!

I bagged up the macaroons in a plastic bag that I bought at a bulk foods store, and tied it closed with a ribbon. I also brought a bag of Christmas-coloured candy for the kids of the house.

You could also give some candy in one of these cute, tree-shaped glass jars. I got this at the bulk foods store too.

I had to tilt the candy to one side for the photos, since my daughter has been covertly nibbling away at them for days. I told her they were for a photo, but I guess the temptation was too strong. I understand, because I started eating them right after I took the pictures!

What are you bringing for hostess gifts this year?

  1. YUM! I was waiting for this. I love quick and easy homemade gifts (big bonus when they can eat the gift).

Is the coconut sweetened or no?

    1. Thanks Rachel. I used sweetened coconut but I think either would work. I like a gift you can eat too! ;)

  2. Thanks, we'll be using this recipe! I was planning on making vegan Christmas stollen for family but it really depends on the weather as I don't want to have the oven on on hot days.

I just this comp which is open to residents of Canada and thought I'd let you know:

    1. I have never made a stollen before. I bet it's yummy! We certainly aren't having hot days around here!

That contest looks enticing...except I'm too lazy to take a good photo. ;)

    1. I had not seen the tree jar until this year. A woman had a whole cart full of them at the Bulk Barn. She was filling them for volunteers she works with. They are cute, aren't they?
