Cape Cod Cottage

Now that we have returned from our Cape Cod vacation and are back to reliable Internet access, I want to share some more of our vacation photos. Maybe this is boring for you, like when you get stuck watching a slide show or dvd of photos at someone's house. If so, feel free to move on to something else.

We rented a cottage in South Yarmouth for a week. It was not inexpensive, at $1,550 US (on special). For that price, it could have been cleaner inside. I found it on Homeaway, where I have found three rentals in Florida and Nova Scotia in the past. They were all immaculate homes. We had the most gorgeous condo in Clearwater Beach. I wanted to move there.

This Cape Cod cottage has a lot of potential. With a lot of white paint, some carpet cleaner and some hedge trimmers, my husband and I could have gone to town.

Can my American friends fill me in on something please...where does the tendency to fly so many flags come from? Just curious, because we don't do that so much in Canada.

A new net for catching minnows, and morning bedhead.

This is what vacation looks like for me.

No air conditioning. Thank God for ocean breezes...and fans, of course.

Nothing like the smell of clothes dried on a clothesline.

More photos to come...including those taken in the beautiful city of Boston.

  1. Yay! Love the pics. I gotta be honest, I don't get the preoccupation with flags either & I'm born & bred American {my Mom flies flags so I'll have to ask her lol}

    1. I think my parents have one Canadian flag. They live in the country. I don't see any in my neighbourhood.

  3. Sounds like a great way to spend vacation - cozy cottage on the Cape! Excellent shot of sunflowers. Not sure about flags, perhaps 4th July holiday???

    1. It is a nice place to vacation. Hanging on the beach is always good! We did go the week after the 4th, so maybe they put out the smaller flags for that.

  4. We always collect sea-glass at the beach and my mom actually made a lamp just like that. Sadly I am not surprised that it was expensive for what you got, the joy of New England! And if I were you I would fly a ton of flags, I just love the Canadian flag- it's my favorite purely for design :)

    1. The sea glass is nice. I see a bit of it on the shores of Lake Erie where my parents live. I would like to have a lamp like that.

      I guess the Canadian flag is sort of pretty - very minimalistic design. :)

  5. There is definitely an American obsession with flags, but especially in summer. I think because Memorial Day, Flag Day, and the 4th all happen close together. I associate flags flying with summer. Looks like a nice little vacation spot!

  7. Aww, I'm sorry the cottage was a bit of a let down but at least you had the luxury of visiting the Cape, right? :) (Vacation looks like a stiff drink to me too, lol). As far as the flag thing, I have no clue (but I know what you're talking about). ;) As always, your kiddo's are adorable!
