Awards Season

Thank you to the sweet and generous Wendy at Salt and Wine for nominating me for The Versatile Blogger award. Check out this Florida mom’s fabulous blog to share in her creative ideas for healthy, harmonic daily living.

I used to write press releases about other people’s awards at work, and it is strange (and very nice) to write about an award you got yourself. Read on to hear some items from my "bio," such as it is.

The rules (for those bloggers who choose to accept):

  1. Grab the Versatile Blogger button.
  2. Thank the person who nominated you.
  3. Include a link to their blog.
  4. Share seven things about yourself.
  5. Pass along the love! Nominate 15 of your favourite blogs.
  6. Inform each nominee with a comment on their blog.
  7. In the same post, include this set of rules.

 Seven things about moi...
  • My brother-in-law started calling me “JoKnows” because his wife would phone me so often for information. Sounds like I’m a bit obnoxious, doesn’t it? Really, I’m just a magazine addict, so I have lots of tidbits of information to offer. I’m not good at trivia though.

  • I have a degree in English literature and an MA in journalism. If a book is easy to read, I can’t help feeling that’s just wrong somehow.
  • When skills were passed around at birth, I got an ability to proofread. Mistakes on a page have a way of popping out at me. Not sure how that ranks as a skill overall…oh, and please don’t find an error on this page.
  • My sister-in-law (the English teacher) and I once performed poorly while playing word games as a team at a bridal shower. I can’t explain it, but I am not that great at word scrambles either.
  • I am not technically vegan. I eat eggs occasionally and, once in a blue moon when I buy a coffee, I put a spot of milk in it. I don’t wear leather, though, and I do prefer to use vegan recipes. I have never intended for my blog to be “about” being vegetarian. That’s just a big part of my everyday living.
  • I love the ocean, but all I am close to is a water drainage pond. That’s why planes were invented, I suppose.
  • I am a big fan of simple pleasures, like tea, scones, cake, books, music (especially Ryan Adams), sunshine and hiking. But, you probably already knew that.

My 15 picks...

Here are some of my favourite blogs. I don’t know what the rules are for how big a following the award recipients can have. These are mostly newer blogs, with a few more established blogs. Whatever. I just love them all.

  1. I love your list (however, now I'm feeling especially self conscious of my grammar or lack there of). I never took your blog to be predominately vegan, I look at it as a lifestyle blog, you write about the things and people you love... And you take amazing photos!

So, thank you for awarding me back! :) (not doing it again, lol). While awards are a great way to bring bloggers together, they're hard work. And I'm lazy. Although, I really like the current community. There are a lot of creative, kind people floating around right now! Looking forward to checking out your nominees.

    1. Don't worry about your grammar! Seems good to me! ;) Thank you for the compliments. I am happy that is how you see my blog. People we know sometimes think my family is totally vegan and then they worry about having us over for dinner. ;) The awards are a lot of work, and I am happy to pick blogs, but unhappy about excluding others! You know how it is.

  2. Thanks for nominating me, Jo! I really enjoy your blog and can't wait to check out some of the others on your list. And I second Wendy's comment... from here on out, I'll officially be paranoid about the complete lack of editing and proofreading that goes into my posts. Ha. :)

    1. Happy to do it! Thanks for the reading pleasure! Your blog is a treat. Don't worry about the proofreading. I have noticed myself making strange mistakes lately. :)

  3. Just saw this! Thanks so much for nominating me :) And congrats to you- you have a fun blog here. And! We share that proofreading skill. Of course as an English major, I HOPE I have that skill! It sometimes does not apply to my own writing, unfortunately :)

    1. Your blog is so great Ruthie! Here's to proofreading! I understand how sometimes it doesn't apply to your own writing. I'm the same. It's better to have a fresh set of eyes look at something.

  4. Thanks for including D.I.Y. Louisville! I never took your blog to be a vegan blog, but as a vegetarian, I do love all of the food posts you have. :)
