Insta-Friday in real life

It was another quiet week around here. So, for today’s Friday look at our cell phone pics, I am featuring sushi…again.

Last weekend, after our shopping trip to H&M, we had a family discussion about what to eat. My daughter favours Thai food, particularly the restaurant that gives her mango ice cream with fresh mango on top. We all thought about Chinese food. Finally, all four of us agreed to a platter of sushi, along with some edamame and veggie fried rice for something hot.

Jolene has been stealing food from the kitchen like crazy lately. The worst part is, it is sometimes still in a plastic bag. She eats it bag and all. So, when the kids are having their after-school snack, we have taken to putting her in her crate beside us. She seems content there in her “safe place.” It appears to shut down her instinct to hunt for food (temporarily anyway).

My feet are so big. Hard to find shoes, especially vegan shoes. I ordered these Converse sneakers, because they come in “unisex” sizes, but I’m thinking maybe they make my feet look even bigger.

My daughter came home from school with this sweet self-portrait. She says it is a picture of her in winter time. I am impressed with her bright, happy look at winter.

I made a simple chana masala the other night, using a recipe from Vegan Express by Nava Atlas.

Yesterday, we got another organic produce delivery. The smaller box was half price, so that’s what we got, but it won’t last us long.

How was your week?

  1. Okay, the food is making me hungry - :) Aww, poort Jolene, lol. Satch doesn't steal food, he steals toys. And digs holes in the yard. And tracks dirt alllll through the house. and is less than impressed with his crate.

I -love- your daughters self portrait!

Seems like it was a happy week.

    1. I know, I hate to put her in there, but she's going to kill herself swallowing plastic. Honestly. She takes toys too! Sometimes digs holes. Good thing they are cute, right?

  3. I wear a size 11 so I understand where you're coming from with the shoes. I actually wear Chucks most of the time. I often find them used on eBay pretty cheap.

Mmmm....sushi.....I haven't had it in a while (the place we usually go has gone downhill recently). I think it's awesome that your kids will eat it. I've exposed Ruby to so many different foods because I want her to NOT be a picky eater. So far so good!

    Happy Weekend!

    1. I was a size 11, but I think I am more like 11.5 now. Not sure why. Aging is cruel. ;) Never thought of getting them on eBay. Nice idea. I exposed the kids to lots of food and my daughter's still pretty picky. Hopefully it will pay off in the end though.

    1. Here's to big feet! Now why don't they expand the selection of shoes in large sizes when there are so many of us? I think it is worse in Canada, though. I find more stuff in the U.S. I want sushi again myself!

  5. Hmmmm.... sushi. Just so happens that my husband and I are going to a supposedly fantastic sushi restaurant tomorrow. I don't know what I am thinking about this. He loves it. I've tried it once (at not such a good place) and didn't like it. He's really, really hoping I learn to like it! :)

    1. I tried it years ago and did not like it. Now I am addicted. If you go "all you can eat," you can have a bunch of other stuff besides the rolls, like rice, spring rolls, etc. I find that is a safer bet when I go with people who aren't that enthusiastic about sushi. Good luck. Let me know how you feel after! :)

    3. I know what you mean. Even when I bookmark them, I am confused. There are so many wonderful blogs. It's great when people comment, because then I can go through the comments to remember who I want to visit! See you again!

  6. Love this post! It's just so interesting to read about another family's food habits. We love sushi here as well...especially my daughter. Re:Your grocery list....I will have to try the Emergen-C! I also keep Stodal cough syrup around, but I find good old-fashioned honey with hot water and lemon works great....as well as Vicks on the chest and steam! Happy Weekend! Angie xo

    1. Hey Angie! I like to read about other family's food habits too! And peek into other grocery carts. ;) Emergen-C is great. The honey and lemon sounds like a good plan too. My kids like to eat their carrots dipped in honey, so hopefully that helps ward off some viruses!

  11. Just looking at that platter of sushi makes me hungry! I don't think I could ever tire of veggie rolls; there are just so many different variations possible. I'm definitely digging the idea of fresh, spring-y asparagus rolls now. :)
